The final episode of the seventh season of Game of Thrones gave us a promising ending with the White Walkers finally breaching the wall, the Night King now owns a dragon and we can’t imagine how much destruction he can bring about to the continent of Westeros.

But, what about the end game for Game of Thrones? Who will survive and who will die? How will it end for the main cast members? We will answer all these questions here.

The author of the series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ , George RR Martin had originally planned for at least five characters to survive the events of the series namely – Jon, Daenerys, Arya, Bran, and Tyrion.

However, George had planned for this for the original manuscript, which was supposed to be a trilogy. We can’t be entirely sure if this would end up happening in the last season of the book or even the final book of the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. So, let’s speculate based on the subtle hints in the books and the last season.

1. Cersei Lannister dies

This has been heavily foreshadowed over all the past seasons and in the books. In the book and in the opening scene of the fifth season, a young Cersei visits the woods witch ‘Maggy’, who accurately predicts her future. However, the show dropped out the ‘Valonqar Prophecy’ which stated Cersei’s demise at the hands of the little brother, who will choke out the life from her. All the fans are making predictions on who that valonqar might be.

2. Jon learns about his heritage and rides a dragon

The final episode of the seventh season showed us the most awaited reunion of Sam and Bran, who will be, most likely, the ones to disclose the truth to Jon. In the books, Jon has a dream, where he visits the crypts of Winterfell, but feels skeptical there of what he will find there. Even the show has foreshadowed his heritage in numerous scenes. In fifth episode of the latest season, Jon pets Drogon, much to Dany’s surprise. Wouldn’t it be poetic, watching Jon riding Rhaegal, the dragon named after his father?

3. Westeros will burn ‘blue’

We already knew that the wall would someday be breached, now that winter is finally here. We know how much destruction ‘undead’ Viserion can cause especially with the ending scene of the last season. The castles of ‘Last Hearth’ and ‘Karhold’ will the first going down in blue flames, foreshadowed in the first scene of Winterfell in the episode ‘Dragonstone’. Will Winterfell and King’s Landing suffer the same fate? What about Dany’s vision in the ‘House of the Undying’?

4. Targaryen children on the way

This is probably the most foreshadowed possibilities in the next season. We all saw Tyrion discussing the succession of the Iron Throne with Dany in the sixth episode of the last season. Even Jorah Mormont said to Jon ‘May it serve you well and your children after you,’ while handing Longclaw back to him. Even in the last episode, Dany said to Jon that she can’t have children. So, with the topic ‘children’ brought about vastly in the last season, it’s safe to assume that we can have more Targaryens on the way.

5. Sam will pen down ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’

In an episode of the last season, Samwell Tarly was seen shrugging over the title Archmaester Ebrose suggested for the title of the book recording the events prior to Robert’s Rebellion. Sam asked Ebrose if the title can be ‘a bit more poetic’ which wasn’t approved of. But, who knows that Sam will be the one to finally pen down the current events of the series. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Sam in the final scene of the series completing the final page of the book ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ just like Frodo Baggins did in ‘Lord of the Rings’?

6. The bittersweet ending that was promised

George has always promised a ‘non-Disney’ ending for Game of Thrones. Of course, we can’t expect that from the series, seeing events like Ned Stark’s beheading in the first season of the series and the ‘Red Wedding’ where major characters like Catelyn, Robb, Talisa and even Greywind died unexpectedly. But, with the promised ‘bittersweet’ ending anything is likely to happen in the last season.
