Game of Thrones is not only a well written show, but one just as well made. Ranging from the choice of locations, to costumes, to make-up and hair, the show has detailed everything to go along with the story. We have seen the costumes and hairstyles of the key characters change over the seasons. Sophie Turner, who plays the role of Sansa Stark on the show, talked about how her character’s changing hairstyles, weren’t as random as we had thought. Read on!
In a recent interview with Refinery29, Sansa talked a bit about exactly this. Talking about the changing styles of Sansa over the years, she said :
“There’s always a pattern. It’s never random.”
She went on to explain :
“Sansa’s hair is constantly reflecting the people she’s learning from, or mimicking, or inspired by at the time. When she’s Cersei’s prisoner, and she’s kind of absorbing all her manipulative techniques, it’s reflected in her hairstyle, and when she’s finding the spirit of Margaery in herself, she wears her hair like Margaery.”
That explains a lot. Which hairstyle then, is Sophie’s favorite? The answer is obvious :
“I’ve always liked when Sansa’s hair was dyed black and pulled back in very tight, taut French braids. It was her own look, and something that she’d created.”
Sophie’s hair is actually blond, and she apparently has to dye it once or twice a week to maintain Sansa’s copper red colour, especially when she has to film for Game of Thrones. She also talked about how she has to rely on products to control the damage that her hair faces due to all the dye. Read the full interview, here.
So, what do you think about the symbolic change in Sansa’s hair? Have you noticed the same in any other character? Tell us in the comments, down below!
