Game of Thrones ended this Sunday, with a finale that might not have been satisfying to some, but yet pretty great, as far as conclusions are considered. However, some fans have been so displeased that they have been running a petition to get HBO to remake Season 8. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, recently commented on this, calling the act disrespectful. Read on!

Sophie Turner talked to the New York Times, about how she expected the ending to not satisfy everyone, but still thought the petition was taking things a bit too far:

“Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.”

“The thing about “Game of Thrones” that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from Season 1 with Ned’s beheading. So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

The petition to remake Season 8, currently sits at almost 1.5 million signatures. She was also asked how she felt about the show ending:

“I don’t know. This whole time I felt like I’ve been prepared for it, and now that it’s come to the day and it’s over, it feels horrible. And, I’m doing a press day for my new movie but everyone keeps asking me about how I feel, and I just want to cry.”

Sophie also commented on Bran becoming the King:

“King Bran the Broken. I suppose it was unexpected but it makes a lot of sense. The best way for us to move into the future is to look at our past and try to not make those mistakes that we did in the past. And he’s the one person that knows everything, so it does make sense. It feels like he would be an incredibly fair ruler.”

If you still haven’t got around to watching the Game of Thrones finale, don’t be sad. You’re in august company. Richard ‘Robb Stark’ Madden himself is yet to catch up, although the ending has been spoiled to him already.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the former Game of Thrones star and Golden Globe awardee admitted to not having watched the finale – “I still haven’t seen it! But [the ending] has been spoiled for me quite a few times already!”

The spoiler Madden is talking about is Brandon Stark being chosen the King of the Six Kingdoms (North remained independent thanks to Sansa). And guess what? He didn’t see it coming either, just like us (well, most of us anyway). When asked about his reaction to the ending Madden said: “[I was] totally surprised. I’ll have to watch it now and see how he ended up there.”

Madden played Robb Stark, older brother of Bran and former King in the North, in Game of Thrones on Season 1-3. His character was killed off in the penultimate episode of Season 3 ‘Rains of Castamere’ in one of the most devastating and shocking events in the history of Game of Thrones – the Red Wedding.

Madden’s character was stabbed to death in Season 3 episode ‘Rains of Castamere’.

Despite the relatively early exit, Madden’s portrayal was widely praised and Robb Stark remains one of the most popular Thrones characters till date. Also, when he gets around to watching the finale, Madden may notice how Robb’s legacy was honoured by Bran when he allowed Sansa to keep the North independent from the rest of his kingdom. That should be sweet!

Game of Thrones has been surrounded by controversy this year, with Season 8 having received a lot of criticism. The show has been practically “review bombed” into the “rotten” category by angry fans who have a serious problem with the writing. One of the lead stars, Kit Harington has also said that the critics can “go f**k themselves.” Now, Gwendoline Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth, has commented on Kit’s comment. Read on!

In a recent interview, citing the work that went into making the show, Kit Harington had said that the critics of the show that don’t like it can “go f*** themselves”. Christie was recently asked about this comment in an interview with The Sunday Times. She responded with a laugh, saying:

“He’s funny. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion — people have been very invested.”

She also discussed Brienne’s story arc and character development:

“For that unconventional character, who never dared to hope for too much for herself, to end up with influence? It’s special. She will bring a great practicality to politics.”

With regards to Brienne’s ‘fling’ with Jaime Lannister, she also addressed that the ending wasn’t meant for everybody:

“But when people come out of a war, as Brienne had, their behaviour changes, and a strong idea of one’s mortality causes you to expose parts of yourself you had concealed. Not everyone is able to be strong all of the time, so we looked at the messiness of what it is to be human.”

Say what you will of Game of Thrones Season 8, the musical score was epic as usual. The man behind it is Ramin Djawadi, who recently sat down with Variety to speak about his experience scoring for the show and particularly the final season. Guess what’s his favourite piece from the season? The Night King, obviously.

And if you live in North America or Canada, chances are you will be able to hear it live in your city sometime in September-October 2019. Djawadi is leading the third Game of Thrones Live Concert tour in 20 cities. The Concert tours began in 2017 and originally featured music from Season 1-7. Now that Season 8 is over, classics like The Night King are being added to the repertoire.

The Night King debuted on the last few minutes of Season 8 Episode 3 ‘The Long Night’, overlaying the finals moments of the battle of Winterfell. A piano melody – starkly different from the chaotic background score of the rest of the episode – started playing as all hopes seemed lost for the Living Side until right at the crescendo Arya Stark plunged the Valyrian Steel dagger into the Night King’s heart. Djawadi says,

“In the episode, there is so much violence going on for so long we felt that it was a great way to kind of put the brakes on, reset, and start soft and just play it. It’s all over now, this is it.”

Djawadi revealed that this is only the second time a piano melody has been used in Game of Thrones. The first time was in ‘Light of the Seven’ from Season 6 episode Winds of Winter, another of Djawadi’s all-time favourites. There, it accompanied another scene of cold-blooded destruction – Cersei Lannister blowing up the Sept of Baelor with all the people inside it.

Djawadi is also excited for the Live Concert tour. In his words:

“It’s really for two kinds of people. It’s the super-fans that want to come and just relive the show and re-enjoy all their favorite highlights from the show. But then … if there are still a few people in the world that haven’t seen the show, they can come see the concert and get a quick crash course now of the entire seasons 1-8.”

He also shared his thoughts on the show coming to an end.

“I have to admit I’m still in denial. I feel like it’s not over yet. I can’t let go. I never expected this to be such a success in that it would have such an impact on people around the world. It’s been an incredible journey. I’m honored to just have been part of this.”
