Game of Thrones has a fantastic cast, and there is hardly any cast member that doesn’t get picked by another major project soon after they’re seen on the show. As you might already be knowing, Finn Jones, who played the role of Loras Tyrell on Game of Thrones, was hired on to play the title character on Marvel’s Netflix series, Iron Fist. In case you didn’t know, the show also stars another Game of Thrones alum, Jessica Henwick, who works on Game of Thrones as Nymeria Sand. She plays Colleen Wing on Iron Fist, in a recent interview, she revealed how her being busy with new projects like Iron Fist led to her character being almost chopped off from Game of Thrones. Read on!
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, Jessica Henwick revealed how her packed schedule wasn’t letting her film for Thrones. She said :
“I wasn’t able to do it. My schedule clashed. I was filming Iron Fist for six-to-seven months and they wouldn’t give me the time off. [GoT] was so massive for me in terms of my career and building my profile and as an experience in itself, I wanted to return. [A GoT producer explained], ‘It’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.’ So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release. I literally was flying back and forth while I was doing Iron Fist in New York to Belfast, even during Christmas break.”
She went on to talk about how she considered leaving Game of Thrones over this conflict :
“I’m not going to lie, a part of me was like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t do it … maybe Nymeria does just disappear!’ And then fans will never know what happened to her, just like with Joe Dempsie. It would be like: ‘What happened to her?’ ‘No one knows…’”
It’s not as if we would have missed Nymeria as most of the fans (including us) are not that happy with the portrayal of Dorne in the show but it would’ve been really weird if her character had suddenly disappeared. Jessica then talked a bit about where her character’s storyline is headed :
“When we left Nymeria she was newly aligned with Olenna Tyrell [Diana Rigg] and was going to start a war. We pick up right where we left off and get into the nitty gritty very quickly. There is no time wasted this season.”
