House of The Dragon casts Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy in key roles
The epic fantasy Game of Thrones ended more than a year ago. Fans of the series still miss the show dearly, and the cast remembers it as a wonderful experience. HBO got the viewers on their toes by announcing a prequel series to the show- House of The Dragon earlier this year. Casting Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen raised the hype-meter even more. Now HBO is turning on the heat with the announcement of more key casts and directors to the upcoming fantasy.
The HBO series has added three more key players to its cast: Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith. Cooke, known from Amazon’s Sound of Metal, is set to star as Alicent Hightower. D’Arcy will star as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Smith is set to play Prince Daemon Targaryen.
Alicent Hightower is the daughter of Hand of the King Otto Hightower. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle. Rhaenyra Targaryen is the king’s first-born, pure Valyrian-blooded child who is a dragonrider. Daemon Targaryen is King Viserys’ younger brother and heir to the throne. Described as a peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon.
House of the Dragon has completed its directing team with Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel and Greg Yaitanes.

The producers have chosen Toussaint to play Lord Corlys Velaryon, the lord of his own namesake house. He also happens to be ‘the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros’, with the world’s largest navy at his disposal. This feat has earned him the nickname ‘The Sea Snake’. Best is playing his wife, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, who is also the dragon-riding cousin of Westeros’ new king, Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine). Rhaenys was snubbed for the throne because of her gender, which prompts some to refer to her as ‘The Queen Who Never Was’.
Ifans is co-starring as Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, who believes that Viserys’ brother, Daemon (Matt Smith) is the biggest threat to the realm. Whatever Daemon’s planning, he’ll have help from his ‘most trusted’ ally, Mizuno’s Mysaria.
The roles of King Viserys, Daemon Targaryen, Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen have already been cast earlier. Are you excited about the prequel series? Tell us in the comments below!
The new year brings with it new hopes and opportunities. The world is trying to get back on its feet after the events of the Red Wedding year 2020. The hopes are very high with the new vaccines undergoing trials. Many people are having a fresh start in the year 2021. Game of Thrones stars have moved on to newer projects to keep entertaining us in the years to come by. Maisie Williams, famous for playing Arya Stark on the show, has joined Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols biopic. She was recently seen in the series Two Weeks to Live.
The limited series will be based on guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir. Williams is set to play model, superfan and “punk icon” Jordan (aka Pamela Rooke) in the six-episode series. The story is inspired by guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol.
“Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent,” said Boyle. “This is the moment that British society and culture changed forever.”
“It is the detonation point for British street culture… where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion… and everyone had to watch and listen… and everyone feared them or followed them. The Sex Pistols.”
He added, “Steve Jones was at the center of the storm that shook the rock establishment and we’re thrilled to have Danny and the rest of the creative team tell his story as a member of one of music’s most notorious bands – the Sex Pistols.”
The Sex Pistols begins production on March 7. No release date has been announced yet. Are you excited about the biopic series? Tell us in the comments below!
The year 2020 may have been full of tragedies and depression, the new year 2021 is slowly turning over a new page. January, so far, has proved to be a month of hopes and excitement. New vaccines under trials, life slowly getting back on track and a lot of new TV shows to look forward to. What’s better than watching our favourite TV stars playing key roles in highly anticipated projects? A Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s DC comic Sandman is one of them. And the cast looks like a reunion of two famous Game of Thrones stars – Gwendoline Christie and Charles Dance.
Gwendoline Christie will play a female version of Lucifer, Queen of Hell. Charles Dance will appear as Roderick Burgess who is a charlatan, blackmailer and magician. Netflix’s official synopsis for The Sandman reads: “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven, ‘The Sandman’ follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”
Gaiman is executive producing the adaptation alongside David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. To give a tough competition to Netflix, HBO has already announced their epic programming line-up for 2021-22. It will be a delight for fantasy lovers all over the world when these fantastic shows are out.
