George R. R. Martin won't work on any new anthologies before he finishes A Song of Ice and Fire
Game of Thrones is a show that is now entering its eight and final season. Like most of you know, the show is based on the series of fantasy novels called A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. The TV show has well over surpassed the storyline of the books, and fans have long been waiting for the next book, The Winds of Winter, which George is close to finishing.
There has been a considerable delay in its release, and many fans believe that it is so because of the many other projects that GRRM works on, especially the anthology series. However there is some good news for fans now, as reports say that George will not be working on any more anthology series till he has finished writing the ASOIAF series. Read on!
The Book of Swords was released last week, containing several short stories, including one from GRRM. The series has been edited by Gardner Dozois, who often collaborates with George. Dozois did a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), recently, where he was asked about whether fans will see more anthology series from him and Martin, both, soon, to which Dozois replied :
“George and I have agreed we’d like to do OLD MOON or OLD LUNA and maybe others, but all subsequent collaborative anthologies with him have been put on hold until after he finishes his novel series.”
So it seems like George will finish the remaining two books, The Winds of Winter, and A Dream of Spring, at least a bit faster. However, don’t be too happy about this! George is still going to be pretty busy, with his Wild Card series, Fire and Blood – the two volume book about Targaryen history, and the work he’s doing on the prequel shows, so we might not see the final book so soon, even though The Winds of Winter is most likely to arrive next year.
