The latest installment in the Game of Thrones series, A Dance with Dragons, was released in 2011, and it has been over thirteen years since its publication. George R. R. Martin‘s fans are growing increasingly impatient due to the prolonged wait for completion of The Winds of Winter, despite his intermittent updates. Recent rumors sparked hope among fans that the eagerly anticipated novel may be announced following the conclusion of House of the Dragon Season 2, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

George R. R. Martin dispels rumors of The Winds of Winter’s release announcement

Whenever George R. R. Martin meets with his editors or publishers, it casts a ripple among the fan community if the book is finally here. However, Martin wrote on his blog, Not a Blog:

” Last year, when I mentioned seeing my Voyager editor in London, the internet went nuts, throwing up all sorts of theories about how this meant that WINDS OF WINTER was done and a huge announcement was at hand. Uhhhh… sorry guys, but no. That’s not how it works. Making contacts… which often turn into friendships… is a huge part of publishing.

This is just the standard way of doing business, guys. It does NOT signify that some momentous announcement is at hand. It doesn’t signify anything, actually… except a desire to touch base, catch up, renew old contacts or make some new ones… and enjoy a nice meal. So calm down, please. When WINDS OF WINTER is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement… where and when I cannot say.”

What led to rumors about The Winds of Winter’s release?

Not too long ago, a pop culture observer’s Instagram story reported a book release party scheduled in New Mexico at a renowned author’s residence following the debut of a much-anticipated book. George R.R. Martin, who has long made his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the author in question.

The timing of the party may coincide with the conclusion of House of the Dragon Season 2, suggesting a potential August release for The Winds of Winter, assuming there are no further delays from George, which remains a possibility.
