George R. R. Martin reveals that Beric Dondarrion is a “wight animated by fire”
Game of Thrones Season 7 is just two days away, and the hype is at an all time high. Now, we know that Winter is here, and it’s time for the White Walkers, and the army of Wights to fight the mortals, and we could not be more excited. In the midst of all the cast interviews that have been dropping, the creator of the Game of Thrones universe, George R. R. Martin, recently gave away some explosive information, very casually, and it might change the way we see all of this. Read on!
So, George spoke to TIME recently, and while all of us were expecting pretty much a standard GRRM styled interview, which it was, but George dropped a mad information about a character we’re seeing around prominently in the Game of Thrones Season 7 teases : Beric Dondarrion. Beric has been seen previously alongside the Brotherhood without Banners, and in case you don’t remember, he is the one who gets killed by The Hound, and is brought back to life by Thoros of Myr. If you remember, he showed up in the Season 7 trailer, with his flaming sword (Lightbringer, anybody?) and looked badass fighting off wights alongside Jon Snow, but apparently there is one thing we don’t know about Beric. George said :
“..poor Beric Dondarrion, who was set up as the foreshadowing of all this, every time he’s a little less Beric. His memories are fading, he’s got all these scars, he’s becoming more and more physically hideous, because he’s not a living human being anymore. His heart isn’t beating, his blood isn’t flowing in his veins, he’s a wight, but a wight animated by fire instead of by ice, now we’re getting back to the whole fire and ice thing.”
Wait, what? Fire Wights? Since when is that a thing? Will we see an army of Fire Wights built to defeat the White Walkers? Is that what Fire and Ice really stands for? We can only wait and watch if this is one of the apparently many mind-blowing things they have lined up for us, come Season 7. Excited? We sure are! Talk to us in the comments, down below!
