Game of Thrones nominated for two BAFTA awards
The awards season is mostly over, but a few shows tend to be sparsely distributed towards the end of it. One such show is the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards held Television Craft awards, usually referred to as the BAFTA Awards. Nominations for the BAFTAs for the year were just announced, and Game of Thrones managed to bag two entries. Read on!
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts recently announced the nominees for this year’s Television Craft awards, and Game of Thrones has nominations in two categories. First off, is the Costume Design category, in which Michele Clapton has been nominated for her work on Season 7, to nobody’s surprise. Let’s take a look at the category, below:
COSTUME DESIGN
ALISON McCOSH Peaky Blinders – Caryn Mandabach Productions / Tiger Aspect Productions / BBC Two
JANE PETRIE The Crown – Left Bank Pictures / Netflix
JOANNA EATWELL Taboo – Scott Free London / Hardy, Son & Baker / BBC One
MICHELE CLAPTON Game of Thrones – HBO Programming / Bighead, Littlehead / Television 360 / Startling Television / Sky Atlantic
Moving on, the second nomination comes in the Production Design category, with Deborah Riley and Rob Cameron nominated. Check out the category:
PRODUCTION DESIGN
DEBORAH RILEY, ROB CAMERON Game of Thrones – HBO Programming / Bighead, Littlehead / Television 360 / Startling Television / Sky Atlantic
JOEL COLLINS, PHIL SIMS USS Calllister (Black Mirror) – House of Tomorrow / Netflix
MARTIN CHILDS The Crown – Left Bank Pictures / Netflix
PAT CAMPBELL The State – Archery Pictures / Channel 4
Both the categories are actually solid wins for Game of Thrones, but there’s a tiny hitch. Game of Thrones hasn’t really performed well at the BAFTAs, having been nominated four times, and won only one, despite being one of the best shows that is eligible for a BAFTAs. Even then, the one win it has is the Radio Times Audience Award, which is an audience choice award.
The BAFTA award ceremony will be held on April 12, so let’s hope Game of Thrones brings home a win this year. What do you guys think? Will Thrones win a BAFTA? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham who played the character of Davos Seaworth in the show has won the inaugural Human Rights Award. It was an important win for the actor and something which he is going to cherish for a long time. Read on.
As per Nova, Cunningham was recently bestowed upon by the award by Syrian refugee Husam Alhraki for his campaigning work on the rights of migrants and refugees. On receiving the award Cunningham felt honored and asked Europe to do more for the refugees. He said:
“It’s an honor for me to receive this award from the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, who have been working to make Ireland a freer and better country for almost half a century.
And it comes at a really important moment when Europe is literally allowing refugees to die on our borders. We need to stand up against this, to assert that Europe and Ireland we want to live in are places that offer refuge to people who need our help.”
In another interview recently, he was particularly vocal against the governments for not doing enough for this crisis. He said:
“It’s an ugly, filthy look on our government not to take care of business … we’re not doing as much as we should be doing and as much as we said we would. It’s terrible.”
Cunningham has emerged as a champion of human rights in Ireland and it is so good to see an actor stand up for a real cause.
