Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke lands a major role in Joseph McCarthy’s biopic
Game of Thrones stars have spread their wings and made their mark in the filming industry with their amazing talent. We can find them regularly appearing on other popular shows and films, providing the fans with a nostalgic and warm feeling from their time on Game of Thrones. Richard Madden and Kit Harington have been cast in important roles in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming movie Eternals. Their co-star Emilia Clarke will soon be joining them in a yet non-disclosed role in Marvel’s Secret Invasion. Clarke has landed another important role recently, in the biopic McCarthy.
The film will take a look at demagogic US senator Joseph McCarthy, who drove the anti-communist doctrine known as McCarthyism, in the US in the 1950s. It will also explore what drove the lawyer and decorated former US Marine down a path that led to show-trials and venomous populism.
Clarke will take on the role of McCarthy’s politically ambitious wife Jean Kerr opposite Man of Steel’s Michael Shannon, who plays the titular role.
“The saga of Joe McCarthy is timeless and the drama behind his rise to power, sobering,” producer Zach Studin said (via Deadline). “It is a powerful reminder to us all that truth and facts are the lifeblood of a free and open society.”
