Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau starrer crime-thriller “The Silencing” acquired by Saban Films
The global pandemic of COVID-19 has affected the global economy badly. Some economists predict this economic crisis would be worse than the Great Recession of 2008; whereas it could compare to the Great Depression of 1929. Most industries have had to virtually shut down production. A few of them, however, are trying to cope with the crisis with digital help. The entertainment industry is one of them. The events and film festivals are increasingly opting for virtual routes. And although further production of new content is difficult at the moment, the films and TV series are bargaining deals online; either for digital releases of completed films or for future projects. Saban Films has acquired the US rights for the crime thriller, The Silencing; starring Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Annabelle Wallis, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the Robin Pront-directed film was an official selection at this year’s SXSW (South by Southwest) Film Festival as a part of its Midnighters Program. Micah Ranum has written The Silencing; and the report describes it as a story that “follows a reformed hunter (Coster-Waldau) living in isolation on a wildlife sanctuary; who becomes involved in a deadly game of cat and mouse when he and the local sheriff set out to track a vicious killer who may have kidnapped his daughter years ago.”
Saban Films partnered with XYZ Films as executive producers for the film while Anova Pictures’ Cybill Lui Eppich produced it. But due to the initial absence of a guarantee of distribution, Saban Films has now officially captured the film rights for the USA market.
Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley talked about the film. “Nikolaj and Annabelle are fantastic in this thrilling tale that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. While we are deeply saddened that it could not premiere at this year’s SXSW, we are honored to be able to share Robin Pront’s film with our audiences.”
SXSW is a festival that celebrates films, interactive media, music, and conferences every year in Austin, Texas, United States. Due to the coronavirus lockdown, the organizers have decided on a virtual festival, where Amazon Prime Video has stepped in. The streaming platform will showcase the films from the fest on Prime Video for 10 days. The event will likely stream free of cost in late April 2020 in the US.
It’s unclear right now whether The Silencing will feature in the list of films premiering in the SXSW virtual fest on Prime Video. The film was initially slated to release on March 14, 2020. But now, we do not have any confirmed release dates. We hope it hits the digital platforms soon.
