Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys on Game of Thrones, is one of the most daring and passionate performers in Hollywood. Despite facing two potentially fatal brain aneurysms during the Game of Thrones filming, she kept going on. She persevered in the face of harsh temperatures and long work weeks. She was more concerned about disappointing the showrunners than with her own mortality. Clarke was awarded the MBE today for her work in raising awareness about brain injuries.

For her efforts to raise awareness of neurological illnesses, Emilia Clarke was presented with the title of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Earlier today, during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, Prince William awarded the actress and her mother Jenny an MBE. Following Clarke’s two deadly brain hemorrhages, the mother-daughter team founded SameYou, a brain injury rehabilitation organization.

Clarke, who is well-known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in the television series Game of Thrones, expressed her gratitude for being chosen for one of the most prestigious honors in Britain. She said, “It’s such an incredible honor, such an incredible privilege, and the most important thing for us is that it’s for everybody with brain injury. To have this near-death experience and to have gone through the sort of the darkness of it all, and then come out of it, we’re so lucky.”
