Interview
Arya Stark was Maisie Williams’ comfort place, but she wants to do roles that “connect with all sides of her personality”
The more versatile an artist is, the more coveted they are. Game of Thrones has produced some of the brightest gems in the acting industry, some of them have gone on to play important roles in big production houses such as the MCU and the DCEU. Maisie Williams is definitely one of them, and the actor is exploring wildly different characters, the latest one being the model Pamela Rooke aka Jordan in the new series ‘Pistol‘.
Maisie Williams has played Arya Stark for nearly a decade on Game of Thrones, and it’s hard to imagine someone else playing the part. She grew up with the role, and even though Arya is her comfort zone, she wants to diversify as an actor, and is looking for roles that “connect with all sides of her personality”. Talking to Porter, Williams said, “Arya was written as hot-headed and I catch myself in roles jumping straight to being accusatory or angry or upset.”
“I’ve felt myself kind of melting away from that, because that isn’t the reality of a lot of people. But it was Arya’s reality, and maybe mine, so I do find myself jumping there as if it were my place of comfort… I’d love to leave the crying and screaming for a while.”
Arya has been doing wide-ranging roles lately, from punk icon Jordan to Catherine Dior. Are you happy with Williams’ transition to other characters? Talk to us in the comments below!
