Iwan Rheon (Ramsay) talks about being typecast as a psychopath after Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones boasted a magnificent ensemble of some of the most notorious villains on television. While some villains are merely unpleasant, the audience cheers for the aspirations of the ambitious ones. Ramsay Bolton, played by Iwan Rheon, was a hybrid of the two, but occasionally more brutal than ambitious.
However, that persona seems to have stuck to Rheon, years after his Game of Thrones exit.
Iwan Rheon blames his Game of Thrones role for being typecast
Rheon has portrayed one of the most despicable characters on Game of Thrones. However, that has led to him being typecast in similar roles in the acting industry. In a recent interview with Radio Times, he said,
“There’s no other way of looking at it. Because of the magnitude of the show, it did loads for my career. But it brought a lot of barriers as well. All of a sudden you’re just getting offered lots of parts where they want you to do the same thing… Well, exactly! I was like: ‘Can I play a nice guy, please?”
Iwan Rheon stars in BBC TV series ‘Men Up’, says it’s “funny” but “serious”
Rheon recently starred in a BBC series Men Up centred around clinical trials of Viagra. “Obviously it’s a subject that’s a bit funny,” he said. “People do tend to laugh – it’s a bit ho ho, nudge nudge, Viagra.”
Then he clarified, “It’s not based around base humour and silly knob jokes. This is a film about these [fictionalised] men, their loved ones and how erectile dysfunction can deeply affect people psychologically”.
Hopefully, Rheon will get to play more “good guy” roles after his recent stint on Men Up.
