12 details you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 7 finale: The Dragon and the Wolf

on

The 7th season of Game Of Thrones finally came to an end this Sunday and it ended on a high note. Throughout the season we heard people talking about how strong the Wall was and how it would protect everyone from the danger beyond the Wall but it turned out that the Night King had a new and powerful weapon that could easily destroy the Wall. We have Tyrion to blame for all this mess as the Night King got a dragon and his plan failed in the end and Cersei isn’t going to honour the promise that she made.

The show gave us many details throughout this season which indicated that the Wall might fall and even this episode was filled with minute details that you might’ve missed. So, for the last time this season, I am going to discuss the details that you might’ve missed in the season 7 finale.

1. Dothraki are wearing the spoils of war

If you looked carefully at the Dothraki during the season finale, you must’ve noticed that they were wearing extra layers of clothing, but on looking carefully you will realize that some of the Dothraki were wearing pieces of Lannister armour.

In the 5th episode, Eastwatch, we had seen the Dothraki scavenging pieces of Lannister armour after the battle was over and now we can see them proudly displaying the spoils of war.

2. Real reason why Bronn asks Podrick for a drink

Just as everyone arrived at the venue, Bronn suggested Podrick that they should go and have a drink while all the fancy people have their serious discussion. This wasn’t any random scene and the real reason behind them going away is that Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey were in a relationship and it ended on bad terms and they can’t stand each other. That’s the reason why the show makes sure that both of them aren’t present in the same scene. This is the reason why we hardly have any scenes featuring both of them together.

Even during the scene, Bronn and Pod left the Dragonpit and within few minutes Cersei Lannister arrived.

3. Daenerys spoke a line in High Valyrian from season 3

While Tyrion went to meet Cersei, to convince her, Jon and Daenerys were waiting in the Dragonpit and Daenerys talked about how the Dragonpit was the beginning of the end for her family. She then spoke a line in High Valyrian and then repeated it in the common tongue, “A dragon is not a slave.”

Fans might remember that Daenerys had said the same line in the 3rd season after she bought the Unsullied in Astapor. The slave master,Kraznys mo Nakloz tried to control the dragon but he wasn’t able to control it and he told Missandei in High Valyrian, “Tell the bitch her beast won’t come.” That was the time when Daenerys revealed she could speak in High Valyrian and she replied, “A dragon is not a slave.

Kraznys was stunned and he asked, “You speak High Valyrian?” and Daenerys replied, “I am Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, of the blood of Old Valyria. Valyrian is my mother tongue. Unsullied! Slay the masters, slay the soldiers, slay every man who holds a whip, but harm no child. Strike the chains off every slave you see!

She then gave the famous order by saying, “Dracarys!”

4. Jon and Daenerys might have a child

During the same scene, we had another conversation about Daenerys mentioning that she can’t have children. So far in this season we have heard this multiple times and Jon finally asked her who gave her this information and she replied, “The witch who murdered my husband.” Jon then calmly told her that the witch might not have been a reliable source of information and that’s when Daenerys took a pause and said, “You were right from the beginning.”

This might be a hint at Daenerys being able to have children and we saw both of them making love on the boat and there’s a high chance that Daenerys will get pregnant in season 8.

5. Foreshadowing about Jon’s identity crisis in season 8

While Theon and Jon were having a discussion at Dragonstone, Theon told Jon about the conflicts in his mind and he said, “It always seemed like there was an impossible choice I had to make: Stark or Greyjoy,” and that’s when Jon replied, “Our father was more of a father to you than yours ever was. But you never lost him. He’s a part of you. Just like he’s a part of me. You don’t need to choose. You’re a Greyjoy, and you’re a Stark.”

This might be a foreshadowing about what is going to happen in season 8, as Jon will soon find out that he’s the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark and he is definitely going to have these conflicts in his mind when he finds out about it.

6. Littlefinger’s death

We finally found out that Littlefinger wasn’t really manipulating Sansa Stark and it’s Sansa who was doing all the manipulation by letting Littlefinger believe that she was falling in his trap. When Arya arrived inside the Great Hall of Winterfell, he was sure that Sansa would sentence Arya to death, but was shocked when she took his name.

He was on his knees and was pleading for his life, when Arya came and slit his throat with the Valyrian Steel dagger. It was the same dagger that Littlefinger used to start the conflict between the Starks and the Lannisters and he betrayed Ned Stark by holding the same dagger to his throat.

7. A reference to what Jaime does in the books

When Jaime found out that Cersei had lied to everyone and she had no intention of sending the Lannister forces North, Jaime decided that he was going to go North to fight against the White Walkers and after he left King’s Landing, it started snowing.

The book readers will know that there’s a similar moment in the book, A Feast for Crows. In the 4th book, Jaime is at Riverrun and he has a strange dream and when he wakes up, he sees that it has started snowing. He realizes that Winter has arrived and the next morning, he receives a letter from Cersei Lannister, asking him to come and defend her as the High Sparrow has imprisoned her and she asks for Jaime to be her champion in a trial by combat.

However, Jaime doesn’t reply to the letter and orders it to be burned. This is very similar to what happened in the latest episode, as Jaime finally decided that he doesn’t want to be with a woman like her.

8. Similarity between Rhaegar and Viserys

We finally got to see Rhaegar Targaryen in the season 7 finale and he looked very similar to Viserys Targaryen. Some fans were confused as they thought that the vision showed Viserys and others joked how HBO was using the same wig for Rhaegar Targaryen.

However, it’s important to remember that Viserys and Rhaegar looked very similar to each other. Take a look at this passage from the books, when Daenerys had a vision of Rhaegar Targaryen in the House of the Undying:

Viserys, was her first thought the next time she paused, but a second glance told her otherwise. The man had her brother’s hair, but he was taller, and his eyes were a dark indigo rather than Lilac.

9. Parallel between the scene from Winterfell battlements

After Arya killed Littlefinger, we got to see both the sisters standing on the battlements of Winterfell and this reminded us of the scene from season 6 finale, when Jon and Sansa were standing at the same place after the Battle of the Bastards.

Jon told Sansa that it was important they trusted each other and the scene with Arya was on similar lines.

10. Arya and Sansa repeat Ned Stark’s words

While standing over there, Arya says, “In winter we must protect ourselves. Look after one another.” This was a lesson that her father, Ned Stark taught her way back in season 1:

In the winter, we must protect ourselves, look after one another. Sansa is your sister.”

Sansa then repeated a line that Ned Stark had said to Arya, “When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

11. It appears that the dead formed the Stark sigil

Reddit usersannybop shared a screenshot from the scene where the dead army is going past the Wall and the user noticed that the formation of the wights slightly resembled the sigil of House Stark, which is a Direwolf. Take a look at the photo below:

The formation doesn’t clearly look like a Direwolf but it does have a slight resemblance to it. Many users have agreed with what the user has noticed and there are many who don’t think that it looks like it’s a Direwolf. Even though it’s not clear if it’s a Driewolf or not, but it’s a nice observation and that’s why I have included it in the list.

12 . Everyone is in big trouble now

Finally let’s talk about the huge moment in the episode, when the Night King brought down a section of the Wall and flew ahead on Viserion. We know that Bran watched the destruction of the Wall and he will definitely warn Jon and Daenerys about the incoming threat, but what if the Night King decides to go South before Jon and Daenerys complete their boat journey?

Most of the people in the South don’t believe in White Walkers and there might be many dead bodies lying throughout Westeros, which haven’t yet been burned. The Night King can easily raise a new army of the dead in the South.

Another interesting thing is that Euron told everyone (he lied but it was a good point) that he was going home and wait for Winter to pass as the dead can’t swim but now that’s not an option. The Night King can easily visit the Iron Islands and even Essos and start resurrecting dead people everywhere!
