Game of Thrones has finally given a glimpse of what we can expect from the newest villain on the block, Euron Greyjoy and we aren’t a bit disappointed. During the season 7 premiere, we were greeted by a pirate who seemed more of a joker, with a huge fleet of ships and who wanted to marry the most beautiful beautiful woman. Many people wondered if he would be as menacing as Ramsay Bolton was. Now, Stormborn has laid all these doubts to rest as we witnessed an epic naval battle which ended brutally for Theon, Yara and the Sand Snakes.
Nymeria and Obara Sand were brutally murdered by Euron and his pirates, while Yara Greyjoy, Tyene and Ellaria Sand were captured as gifts for the Queen. Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick who plays Nymeria Sand in the show spoke with EW about the brutal ending of the episode.
Talking about Nymeria’s fate, Jessica said, “The first thing I thought was that it’s brutal. It’s hard reading these scenes where characters you love are getting absolutely demolished. And in our case, it’s by a crazy madman. I knew it was going to be very intense and very physical. I was excited because on the page you could feel the scope of it.”
The battle scene on the ship looked really intense and looking at it, we can see that it must’ve been difficult to shoot it. “It was grueling. It was one of the few occasions where it was more intense on set than it will be on screen,” said Jessica while talking about all the efforts that . She further added, “the audience can’t feel the heat on their face from the pyrotechnics going off or feel the wave machine trying to knock us off our feet, or the sweat dripping off our faces. They were blowing burning embers onto us. One of the stunt double’s wigs caught fire. And some of the stunt doubles fell through the balsa wood floor of the ship.”
Jessica also spoke about her experience of shooting the series and how her last day on the sets was like. Read the entire interview over here.
