The second season of House of the Dragon began with a visit to the North of Westeros. Jacaerys Velaryon, son of Rhaenyra Targaryen, brokered an alliance with young Cregan Stark, the head of House Stark. This episode brought fans back to iconic locations like the Wall and reintroduced legendary Stark symbols. Cregan Stark carried the Valyrian steel sword Ice, which Ned Stark famously wielded in Game of Thrones. In the original series, Ice was used for both noble purposes and dark fates, including Ned’s execution. The show recreated Ice for the prequel series, paying homage to its deep significance.

The official Game of Thrones YouTube channel released a video showing how this legendary prop was crafted. The video provides behind-the-scenes details about the process, showcasing the passion and dedication of the production team.

House Stark’s ancestral Valyrian steel sword Ice is a significant prop in both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. The sword’s recreation required immense attention to detail. The production team ensured it retained its imposing size and legendary aesthetic.

In the behind-the-scenes video, director Alan Taylor described Ice as intimidating, calling it a weapon that could make anyone feel “like a wimp.”

Showrunner Ryan Condal’s enthusiasm for props adds authenticity to House of the Dragon. His personal interest in collectibles and props enhances the show’s attention to detail. His passion for iconic items like Ice ensures they are faithfully recreated for the series.

Condal’s podcast, “The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of,” reflects his dedication to discussing and collecting unique props. His excitement for recreating Ice shines through in the behind-the-scenes video.

Cregan Stark, portrayed by Tom Taylor, made his debut in Season 2. As the head of House Stark, his alliance with Jacaerys Velaryon reconnected viewers to Game of Thrones and the Northern traditions of Westeros. Cregan wielded Ice during his appearance, showcasing the sword’s significance to his character. Fans enjoyed this nod to the Stark family’s enduring influence.

Cregan is set to return in Season 3, which will feature his leadership in the Riverlands. The iconic Valyrian steel blade will likely accompany him into battle.
