Tommen's beloved cat 'Ser Pounce' from Game of Thrones is still alive and well

Game of Thrones ended back in May 2019, leaving some fans contended while most were not satisfied with the much-expected bittersweet ending. We once loved many characters and hated others – that perception of ours was changed manifold after watching Daenerys Targaryen torching the entire King’s Landing. However, some characters in the series went missing too in the series over the years especially Tommen Baratheon’s beloved cat ‘Ser Pounce’.

Ahead of the final season’s airing, we updated you with the fact that the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had revealed to Entertainment Weekly about the cat’s fate in the series. According to them, it was executed by Cersei Lannister. They had told EW,

“Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive…So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”

However, disturbing this news was once to all cat lovers and Cersei-haters, it has now been revealed that the cat who played Ser Pounce in the show is alive and well.

The adorable cat in the series was played by a Maine coon cat named Womble. This was revealed to the Huffington Post by Jo Vaughan, animal training specialists Birds and Animals U.K. He told them,

“He is owned by us still and is retired with one of our trainers.”

Vaughan has also trained the Inuit dogs that played the direwolves in the first season of Game of Thrones along with Ramsey Bolton’s hounds in the fifth and sixth season. He told HuffPost,

“They are all pet animals and many are now enjoying their days of retirement!”

Additionally, he also revealed that Womble also was one of the cats who portrayed the character of Mrs Norris in the Harry Potter franchise.

This revelation makes Womble another Game of Thrones cast member who once had a role to play in Harry Potter films. This list includes Michelle Fairley, David Bradley, Natalia Tena, Julian Glover, Freddie Stroma, and Jim Broadbent.

Game of Thrones had plenty of social messages hidden in plain sight. Though it may not be too obvious, it was a representation of our own society. According to recent research, the fantasy show is very similar to real-world human interactions. That’s the reason why the show was such a big hit, people could relate to the characters. The series was a big platform to showcase the Domestic Abuse women face behind closed doors. Mother of Dragons, Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), has come forward in support of them.
