George R. R. Martin discusses Game of Thrones finale, says the books will and will not have a similar ending

After nearly a decade of work being put in, Game of Thrones ended this Sunday. Season 8 episode 6 — “The Iron Throne” rounded up a lot of loose ends from the show, and while it might not have pleased everyone, it was still a fitting end for the show that has had us on the hook for such a long time. Now, of course, everybody is interested in knowing what creator George R. R. Martin has to think of the end and whether the book ending will be any different. These are exactly the questions that he addressed in a blog post on his website, recently. Read on!

George wrote a blog post on his Not a Blog recently, titled “An Ending“, talking about the end of Game of Thrones. George dabbled in nostalgia in the post, talking about how he asked David and Dan who Jon Snow’s mother was, in their first meeting, and they knew the right answer. He also went on to appreciate the showrunners, the cast and the crew for working so hard on the show. He revealed his future plans, saying he was working on five shows with the HBO, some of which are not about Westeros. He then went on to discuss his plans with the books, specifically:

“And I’m writing. Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF SPRING.

How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different?

Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.”

He then gave us a glimpse of what to expect from the books:

“I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. They had six hours for this final season. I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them. And of course the butterfly effect will be at work as well; those of you who follow this Not A Blog will know that I’ve been talking about that since season one. There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet. And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…”

He also ridiculed the idea of fans asking which one the “real ending” will be:

“Book or show, which will be the “real” ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have? How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet.”

Well, the man said it himself. Maybe we should stop complaining now and enjoy what Game of Thrones did for us. What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Game of Thrones is over, and the stars of the show are now off living their happy lives. We had recently reported that Sophie Turner, who played the role of Sansa Stark, had an impromptu wedding with Joe Jonas at Las Vegas, with a bigger ceremony to follow soon. Now, it looks like that wedding is close, as Sophie recently kicked off her pre-wedding celebrations with a party in France. Read on!

Sophie was recently spotted in the south of France, starting her pre-wedding celebrations accompanied by her husband-to-be Joe Jonas, the rest of the Jonas family, and her friends, which included her Game of Thrones co-star, Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark. Take a look at the pictures:

Well, looks like they had a lot of fun! The pair are expected to tie the knot officially soon, so stay tuned for coverage on that. Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Game of Thrones has always been a fan favourite and having one of the biggest fandoms in the world, a big presence at Comic Cons. The biggest of them all, San Diego Comic-Con, also stylised as SDCC, has seen Game of Thrones as a regular attendee, except for one year. Now, it looks like HBO will make up for the missing year by bringing it back, one last time, at SDCC 2019. Read on!

A few days ago, we had reported that there was a good chance that Game of Thrones will make an appearance at SDCC 2019. No official information had been revealed at the time, with no comments from HBO or SDCC officials. Now, however, HBO has gone and announced Game of Thrones’ big final return to SDCC. They posted a teaser through the official Twitter account of Game of Thrones:

HBO also revealed in a PR note that it will bring Westworld, and His Dark Materials to SDCC 2019, and that there will be a surprise for fans of the upcoming show, Watchmen. Furthermore, HBO also revealed details about the Game of Thrones panel. The panel will be in, of course, Hall H, on 19th July, at 5.30 p.m., with autograph signing kicking off at 3.30p.m. Here are the attendees:

“Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei of Naath), Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont), Conleth Hill (Varys), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark). Other panelists include creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and director and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik.”

Looks like both Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) will not be attending. This is the first time the stars and showrunners will be facing the fans together after the end of the show. Showrunners David and Dan have faced a lot of heat from the fans for Season 8 writing, so we might see them having to answer a couple of tough questions at the Q&A session.

You will be able to follow the live coverage of the panel on the official Twitter handle @GameofThrones and use #GoTSDCC for the live tweet feed. Are you planning on attending SDCC 2019? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Game of Thrones had one of the most intense filming processes ever, to a degree where each episode was shot like a film. To add to that, many of the stars of the show started their careers with the show and were at it for a whole decade. So it’s obvious that the end of the show was a bit of a shake-up for these stars. One of such stars was Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow. He had checked himself into rehab after the end of the show. He has now been spotted in London after finishing up his time in rehab. Read on!

We had recently reported that Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow had checked into a ‘luxury rehab’ in Connecticut to deal with stress and alcoholism. It was actually more of a “wellness retreat” rather than a typical rehab, as his reps had explained. It looks like Kit is out of rehab now, and looking good, as he was spotted in London recently, reports PopSugar. Take a look:

That’s all we have seen of him. Kit is yet to do any post-rehab interviews or talk about his recovery, but we expect him to be fully back on track. We can’t wait to see the role he takes up next. What about you? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
