Game of Thrones script reveals Stannis Baratheon originally had a more emotional death

Script for Game of Thrones episode shows how Stannis Baratheon's death changed

As far as killing off important character goes, Game of Thrones certainly takes the top spot, and that is the beauty of the show. In its six seasons till now, the show has killed off so many characters we thought to be important, and it seems to do so without flinching. Game of Thrones is adapted from A Song of Ice and Fire series, by George R. R. Martin, with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss making the calls for how different it will be from the books. Similarly, the final scenes have their differences from the written scripts, as well, considering the fact that, at times, crucial decisions about the direction of a particular scene are made while filming it, simply because it goes well. Quite recently, we had talked about how the episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’ was different from the official script. Now, another script posted online highlights the difference between how Stannis Baratheon‘s death was originally written, and how it came to be. Read on!

Stannis Baratheon was killed off in the last episode of Season 5, titled ‘Mother’s Mercy’. The full script of the episode is available on the official website of the Emmys, as it had been submitted for consideration by HBO when Game of Thrones was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, which it won. The difference was pointed out by a Redditor named clouddragon94. The original dialogue read :

BRIENNE: “Do you have any last words?”

Stannis considers.

STANNIS: “Do you believe in the life to come?”

Brienne nods.

STANNIS: “I don’t. But if I’m wrong, and you’re right… tell Renly I’m sorry when you get there. I don’’ imagine I’ll see him wherever I’m going. (beat) And my daughter. Tell her… tell her…”

“Sorry” doesn’t begin to cover what he feels about Shireen. The thought of it brings tears to his eyes, and he’s not going to die weeping in front of a woman he doesn’t know. Stannis stares up at her.

STANNIS: “Go on. Do your duty.”

Brienne raises her sword and brings it down with a mighty swing.

As you might remember, most of this was cut out. Stannis isn’t shown to get a speech which offers him at least some sort of redemption before Brienne of Tarth kills him. It wouldn’t have really made sense, either, considering how the whole speech seems very un-Stannis-y. We feel like it was a good decision to chop this off, and we prefer the way they chose to bid Stannis goodbye.

What do you think? Would this have been a better way to let Stannis Baratheon go? Or do you like the way it was actually done in the series? Talk to us in the comments, below!

Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa opens up about life with family

Real-life is often different from reel life. The celebrities we idolize often face regular problems like normal people. We might want a life like theirs, but ignore the struggles they had to face. For example, Game of Thrones macho man Jason Momoa. Though he appears fearsome as Khal Drogo and majestic as Aquaman on-screen, he’s completely different in real life. The 41-year-old actor recently opened up about his life off-screen in an interview with Men’s Health magazine.

The Game of Thrones star revealed, “I may look big and tough, but I’m not. I’m nothing like Khal Drogo. I’m not even the king of my own house! I’m absolutely terrified of my wife.”

Momoa loves his family. He said, “We’ve all gotten so much closer. My wife is very sophisticated and smart and our kids and I are kind of like animals that need to be trained a little better. I’m constantly a work in progress, and I’ve just been trying to get better as a father and a husband.”

Jason has been through a lot, without letting anyone know about his troubles. He recently revealed in an interview how his family was facing financial troubles after Game of Thrones. It is tough to imagine someone as popular as he went broke. Things got better for him after the Justice League.

Game of Thrones' Sean Bean shines once again as a dad in animation Wolfwalkers

Animated movies are a doorway to relive our childhood. Adults and children enjoy them equally. Some of them have such an engaging story they turn out to be a huge success. Sean Bean starrer Wolfwalkers checks off all the markers of a great animated movie. (Another cool animation Hitpig is on the way!). The movie was released on 13th November in The US and has been received really well by critics worldwide.

Game of Thrones' Sean Bean shines once again as a dad in animation Wolfwalkers

Directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, Wolfwalkers is rooted in Irish folklore and art. It follows the tale of a young girl, Robyn (Honor Kneafsey), and her father, Bill (Sean Bean). They have been called from their homeland (England) to take out a pack of wolves in the town of Kilkenny, Ireland, in the 17th century. Robyn longs for the freedom she once had in England and wants to follow in her father’s footsteps as a hunter.

On the other side of the forest are wolfwalkers. They are a small breed of unique humans with the ability to turn into wolves when they sleep. They have control over wild wolves living in the surrounding forests. The wolfwalkers are forced to lash out as the townsfolk destroy their home, hunting them. Robyn must act as a mediator for her Irish town and the wolfwalkers of the forest.

The film features Celtic art and beautifully designed hand-drawn animation. From being the Dad Wolf in Game of Thrones to hunting wolves in Wolfwalkers, Sean Bean has come a long way. Give it a watch and tell us how you felt about it in the comments below!
