Ian McShane (Brother Ray) talks about the war of the Ninepenny Kings

As some of you might know, Season 6 of Game of Thrones was released on Blu-Ray and DVD by HBO. As expected, the package arrives with a lot of extra specials on board, and the most striking one is the one where Ian McShane (Brother Ray) talks about The War of the Ninepenny Kings.

For those of you who have forgotten, Brother Ray, portrayed by Ian McShane, was a character in Season 6 of Game of Thrones, who saved The Hound – Sandor Clegane, and was later brutally murdered by some members of the Brotherhood without Banners who were then brutally murdered by Sandor Clegane.

You can check out the narrative in the video clip below, uploaded by Elio García, the co-author of The World of Ice and Fire :

The War of the Ninepenny Kings (also known as the Fifth Blackfyre Rebellion) was a war among many of the Free Cities, started by the Band of Nine. The name Ninepenny came because of a comment from Prince Duncan Targaryen, who said “Crowns were being sold for nine a penny,” pointing at the fact that there were nine different claims to the throne at the moment. The war occurred almost 25 years before Robert’s Rebellion.

There is a possibility that this is another hint at a prequel series for Game of Thrones, as we have been hearing more and more about it being picked up to follow Game of Thrones, by HBO.

Other special features include the making of the Battle of the Bastards, a feature on the Tournament at Harrenhal, and more.
