NI Screen, the leading TV industry of the UK has been funding Game of Thrones for years now, since Northern Ireland is the prime location for a lot of major parts of the HBO fantasy drama. Since the news about Game of Thrones ending after its eighth season is doing the rounds these days, it appears that Northern Ireland has been well prepared for the same. In fact, it has been planning the end of the show for a while now. Game of Thrones has brought Northern Ireland a lot of economic prosperity as well as tourism, which has helped the area as much as it has helped the show.

And now that the end is near, the head of NI screen, Mr. Williams, has said that they had been planning it for years now.

“By the time Game of Thrones leaves Northern Ireland, it will have been on the ground here for 10 years,” he said. “That’s a very long time in our game.”

With Belfast being the major location for filming of the show, Northern Ireland is known for investing around £13.7 million of public money in the first six seasons of Game of Thrones. Mr. Williams continued talking about the impact of Game of Thrones and how the end of the show will bode well for Northern Ireland.

“When it leaves, it leaves all of the knowledge, it leaves all of the support companies. There have been post-production companies, casting, extras companies, catering companies, and lighting and construction. They are all here, and there’s not a significant buyer in Los Angeles that doesn’t know that Game of Thrones was made here.”

It appears that Game of Thrones has brought about a lot of great changes for Northern Ireland since the start of the series six years ago!

Mid-“my batter looks like its thrown up on itself, how about yours?!” Chat… THIS is how I throw a cook-along party, (in Covid time that IS a thing I swear) full of mess and big arm gestures in lieu of actual cooking knowledge. Ted @gommie_poem and I were joined in my messy kitchen by 12 beautiful souls as we all made and ate…pancakes! 🥳 (a soufflé seemed a bridge too far) Quote of the meal “mine look like chicken fillets” (to be fair I found a recipe that didn’t need flour so things got a little… DENSE. 😋) This roaring good time we all had was a thank you for the incredible donations these wonders made towards @sameyouorg Covid Relief fund. We have created an online clinic for brain injury recovery which is growing into something truly magic. LIKE OUR PANCAKES! #newcookingshowanyone? #illbrushuponmywhiskingskills #👩‍🍳 #❤️ #👌

Clarke had launched her charity SameYou in 2019 which looks after the adults who have suffered strokes and brain injuries. She especially wanted to help the individuals during the pandemic and wanted to raise £250,000 for the same.

We have absolutely loved how active our favorite stars have been in these trying times. Clarke has been especially associated with multiple charity events which just goes on to show what a golden heart she is.

Game of Thrones actors Pilou Asbæk and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau celebrate the freedom from Nazi rule

Some dates are more significant in our lives than others. For some, it’s their birthday, or their anniversary, while for some, every day matters. However, some dates define who we are. They represent our upbringing, our roots, our culture, and our nation. Recently, two Game of Thrones actors, Pilou Asbæk and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, celebrated a similarly important day rather quietly. Read on to find out more!

May 4th marked the 75th year of the freedom for Denmark from the Nazi rule. It was on this day in 1945 that Danish people finally got their independence from the brutal reign of German forces. Both Asbæk and Waldau took to their Instagram and reflected on it.

75 years ago today…these guys left #denmark #secondworldwar not on trucks like the photo, that’s from a movie set…but by surrendering themselves to the #allies it’s pretty crazy how the world has changed since then 😳 back during the war England helped freeing #europe , so did America, and Soviet Union (I understand #bornholm might see that differently, other story)…But now…well…you know 🤷🏼‍♂️ #england can’t leave EU quick enough 🤔, USA is on a completely different ride and Germany 🇩🇪 / France are working together to save the European Union from falling apart. I will forever be #thankful for what the UK/USA/Soviet Union did…without you…the world would have looked even stranger…. but guys…I kinda miss you nowadays, please don’t go too far 😂😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♂️🙏🏻😉 on another note yet the same, how will the world look in 75 years from now, the future be, if we do not stop up and make the right decisions??? That’s the big question… as a father to a little girl ❤️ I promise you I will do my best to make it safe, well and healthy ☺️🙏🏻 if we pull together, hopefully it’s not too late!!! . #never #forget #the #past #if #you #wanna #understand #the #future #midnightmelancholia

Nikolaj, too, felt grateful for the forces that defended Denmark then from Nazi tyranny. He wrote:

“Today we remember and are grateful for the people who stood up and defended our freedom and democracy against the Nazi tyranny. May 4th 1945 ended the darkest years in Denmark.”

Well, isn’t it great to see two co-stars sharing the same history and being grateful for it?  On the work front too Nikolaj’s Danish film got many international deals.

We congratulate Denmark and the Danish people on the landmark day. You can do the same; the comment section is all yours!

Iain Glen (Jorah) almost played Nite Owl in a shelved 2003 Watchmen movie

Iain Glen was the original Night Owl in the shelved Watchmen movie

They say destinies are beyond our control. Well, if you will read our latest story you will know why. Zack Snyder’s film Watchmen hit the theatres in 2009 and years later we have found a Game of Thrones connection to that film. Confused? Well, don’t be. Read on to find out more!

As per Winter is coming, long before Patrick Wilson donned the hat of Nite Owl in Snyder’s film, Iain Glen a.k.a. Ser Jorah Mormont was supposed to. Unfortunately for him and for a lot of his fans, the film was shelved and never saw the light of the day.

However, now we have struck gold and found the test footage of the 2003 film. That film was going to be made by David Hayter and somehow that footage has now landed on the internet.

How about that? Did you like the suave looking nerdy Glen? After having seen what we saw in Game of Thrones it would have been such a different role for Glen. Unfortunately, Hayter could only make the film as far as that.

While the comparisons with the eventual released Watchmen can continue for an eternity, we can say for sure that we as an audience missed out on a fine performance.

Good thing for HBO is that their mini-series on the same subject earned them some great acclaim and solid viewings. While Glen may not have got the chance to wear the superhero costume as yet he was truly a hero in the HBO’s epic saga. He after all shot for Thrones while his wife had a brain hemorrhage.

What did you make of the footage? Talk to us in the comments below!
