The year 2020 was a Red Wedding year for the majority of people. The COVID-19 pandemic forced people to be locked up in their homes. Many lost their lives and livelihoods, making them question their sanity. The current year began with a ray of hope when various vaccines developed to fight the disease went under trials. Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin recently took a shot of one vaccine ‘Moderna‘ according to his blog, Not a Blog, and also reported about his ongoing projects.

It said, “I got the first shot of Covid vaccine last week, I am relieved to report. The Moderna vaccine. Second shot scheduled for the end of the month.

Parris has also gotten her first shot. That’s the good news. And it does seem that we are finally turning the corner on the pandemic. We are not out of the woods yet, but I am cautiously hopeful.

The bad news, of course, is that I have lost five friends since November. Not all to Covid, though that was a factor in some of the deaths. Death is part of life, I know, it waits for all of us, valar morghulis and all that. Even so, this is too much too soon, and it has been hitting me hard. I have friends who struggle with depression, but I have never been prone to such myself… at least not the kind of depression that requires medication… but it is hard to stay upbeat and focused when you are suffering so many losses so close together, blow after blow after blow.

Fuck you, Grim Reaper. Stick that scythe up your arse and leave my loved ones alone. Meanwhile, I do my best to lose myself in work.”

Game of Thrones wrapped up filming about two years ago. The fans and the crew miss the show alike. However, HBO seems to be quite interested in exploring George R.R. Martin’s fantastical world even more. The television network has already got fans to their toes by announcing the first prequel series House of The Dragon. It was later confirmed in their epic programming line-up for 2021-22. Now, there are rumours of three more Game of Thrones-related shows in talks at the network’s headquarters.

According to some sources at Variety, HBO is developing a trio of new Game of Thrones prequel series. One spinoff, titled ‘9 Voyages’ or ‘Sea Snake’, hails from ‘Rome‘ co-creator Bruno Heller. While the other two, ‘Flea Bottom‘ and ‘10,000 Ships‘ have no writers yet attached.

9 Voyages would centre on Lord Corlys Velaryon — known as the Sea Snake and head of House Velaryon, husband to Rhaenys Targaryen — on the Sea Snake vessel. The most well-known nautical adventurer in all of Westeros, Lord Corlys — built a house even wealthier than the Lannisters and claims the largest navy in the world.

Flea Bottom would take place in the poorest district of King’s Landing. 10,000 Ships revolves around Princess Nymeria, who journeyed with the Rhoynar to Dorne and married Lord Mors Martell. An HBO spokesperson declined to comment.

The world is slowly picking up pace after the events of the Red Wedding year 2020. The entertainment industry is fast on its wheels to make the most of the post-lockdown time. A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin is pretty busy these days as well. After the grand success of Game of Thrones, Martin is in demand pretty much everywhere, from movies to series to making video games. He recently posted on his blog Not A Blog about his ongoing ventures.

Martin wrote, “The story about the adaptation of IN THE LOST LANDS broke a week or so back. And now, hard on the heels of that, comes the announcement about another story of mine being developed as a movie.”

“‘Sandkings’ was the story I was best known for, before A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE came along. Originally published in OMNI, it went on to win the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards (my only triple crown) and has been anthologized and reprinted more times than I can count. It was filmed once before as well, as the two-hour premiere episode of the revived OUTER LIMITS. Melinda Snodgrass did the adaptation; Beau Bridges starred, with his father and his son in supporting roles.”

He continued, “Now the story is in development once again… this time as a feature film rather than a television episode. Gore Verbinski will helm the project. Dennis Kelly is writing the script, which promises to be a closer adaptation than the OUTER LIMITS version. The new version will have a much bigger budget as well; the OUTER LIMITS simply did not have the money to do all the things that they wanted to do.”

The fantastical world is a blissful escape from bleak reality. Humans have taken the help of myths and legends to gain temporary relief from day-to-day drudgery. At present, there are more realistic ways of living your fantasies, than simply imagining them. Shows like Game of Thrones have set the bar for the quality of fantasy TV shows. Another way of experiencing the mythical world is through video games. And a game made with the help of Game of Thrones’ creator George R. R. Martin; that’s even better!

From Software — the developer announced a new project: Elden Ring, a new game with a medieval flare. They are behind some of the famously difficult games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. George R.R. Martin worked with From Software director Hidetaka Miyazaki on this game. “Building the world of Elden Ring with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat!” Martin said at the time. “The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what Elden Ring has in store for them.”
