Natalie Dormer originally auditioned for a different Game of Thrones’ character

Margaery

Some characters, when introduced in a TV show, become fan-favourites over time and play a pivotal role in the story. Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell, who was added to the series in episode 3 of season 2, gained massive popularity due to her wits, seductiveness and cunning nature. Although, she originally auditioned for a different role on Game of Thrones, and that was Melisandre!

In James Hibberd’s book, Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, Natalie talked about her journey on the show. (Also, check out why she left the series). She recalled how thrilled she was for the audition. She said,

Dormer

I’ve never spoke about this previously: I didn’t audition for Margaery Tyrell originally. I auditioned for Melisandre. Then I got a call from my agents saying, ‘They loved you but want you to audition for another role.’ And I’m like, ‘Damn, this Melisandre role looks f**king cool!’ Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff] said, ‘There’s this character Margaery, and we’re still exploring what we’re going to do with her.”

“ You look back and realize Melisandre couldn’t have been anyone else, Carice [van Houten] did an amazing job, but I always had a chuckle on the couch when a Melisandre scene came on. Margaery brought a very sort of modern PR kind of angle [to the ensemble]. She was canvassing the common people’s hearts and minds. I tried to think of her as like a hybrid of Michelle Obama and like a Kate Middleton or Princess Diana,” she added.

It’s hard to imagine Dormer in any other role, she nailed it so brilliantly. Would you have liked to see Dormer as Melisandre? Tell us in the comments below!

However, we can always enjoy their amazing performances in their newer projects. Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the show, will be joining the ever-sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe. She said, “I’m never going to be the actor that goes ‘I don’t tape”. Yes. The first people I spoke to with Marvel after getting the role was their security team…I actually live in fear that something is going to happen, and I’m going to say something, and they’ll get upset. But, I play a character that I’m super into everything about it.”

Clarke adds that she hasn’t auditioned for Marvel before. She isn’t sure why it didn’t happen during the Game of Thrones years, “I don’t know that happened, I could have been up for it and nobody ever told me…No, this is my first brush [auditioning] with Marvel. I feel like there was the whole time I was with ‘Game of Thrones’; one would imagine that, this is me guessing…[Marvel Studios] didn’t want to take someone that’s in the middle of a massive franchise out of respect, or they just thought I was crap until now [laughs].”

Clarke also said she understood why fans were mad at Game of Thrones season 8 finale. Who do you think Clarke will play in Secret Invasion? Tell us in the comments below!

Game of Thrones celebrities are making headlines everywhere. It is a well-known fact that various Game of Thrones actors have appeared in MCU movies and some are going to star in upcoming Marvel projects. Kit Harington and Richard Madden will be playing brothers once again in Marvel’s Eternals. And their co-star Emilia Clarke is really excited about it. Emilia Clarke recalls reaching out to Kit Harington about his fabulous Marvel experience

She recently talked to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Clarke revealed that she got a glowing review from Kit Harington when asked if she had spoken to him about his time on Eternals, “Yes. I haven’t spoken to him since getting [‘Secret Invasion’]. All I know is that he had a fabulous experience; I spoke to him a bunch when he was doing it and got back from it. He just loved it.”

Back when the filming on Eternals was still in the budding stages, their co-star Richard Madden, who had already joined the franchise, was really excited about Kit getting on board. He said, “It’s brilliant. It’s been about 10 years since we’ve worked together, I think. So we’ve moved on a bit onto different things, so I’m really excited to get back on set.”

Emilia Clarke understands why fans were p***ed over Daenerys’ fate in Season 8 finale

Emilia Clarke understands why fans were p***ed over Daenerys’ fate in Season 8 finale

It has been 2 years, and it is still the hot topic of several online debates amongst fan communities across the internet. The controversial final season of Game of Thrones. Some of the fans were so disappointed that they petitioned for a rewrite of the final season. Some actors, like Charles Dance, even agreed to sign it. Even the mother of dragons understands and agrees with the viewers. Actress Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the show, was especially sad about the downfall of her character.

Clarke told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “I get it. I get why people were p***ed. I totally get it. But me being the actor, you can’t do justice to the character that you’ve poured your blood, sweat and tears into for a decade without getting on the same page. Do you know what I mean? So like, I’m not going to be there being like, “Fine, I’ll do the scene, whatever. So p***ed.”

Emilia explained that as an actor, regardless of where the story leads, ‘you have to turn up’.

“You have to turn up and you have to… because why? Because you’re doing it for you and you’re doing it for her and you’re doing it for the show and you’re doing it for the storytelling. So, I’m an actor. I get given a story and I need to tell that story,” she said.

Emilia is currently writing her own comics, and hopefully, she’ll give an ending to this character she had hoped for Dany. Do you agree with Emilia? Talk to us in the comments below!
