Emilia Clarke

Life is not a bed of roses, even the celebrities we idolize face problems that we may not know of. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, who played the bold Daenerys Targaryen, is really brave in real life as well.

Clarke discusses about her struggle with a deadly injury while filming for the show in the book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, written by Entertainment Weekly editor James Hibberd. She suffered a brain haemorrhage at a gym in London back in 2012, while filming for the second season.

I had the consistent fear that I was going to have another brain haemorrhage. I spent a lot time just being like: “Am I gonna die? Is that gonna happen on set? Because that would be really inconvenient.” And with any kind of brain injury it leaves you with a fatigue that’s indescribable. I was trying so hard to keep it under wraps.”

Emilia couldn’t even remember her own name after the surgery. She recovered quickly and was back to work in just a few weeks, but she could feel the after-effects.

In all of my years on the show, I never put self-health first, which is probably why everyone else was worrying, as they could see that. They didn’t want to work me too hard. I was like: “Don’t think I’m a failure; don’t think I can’t do the job that I’ve been hired to do. Please don’t think I’m going to f–k up at any moment.” I had the Willy Wonka golden ticket. I wasn’t about to hand that in.

Clarke’s determination is an inspiration for everyone who’s facing a problem and thinking about giving up. Life is not about giving up. Share with us how you fought back against a difficult situation in the comments below!

Nathalie Emmanuel addresses Hollywood’s response to Black Lives Matter

The human race has often been divided and fought amongst themselves throughout history. Sometimes they fight over religion, colour, money and throne (like in Game of Thrones). The Red Wedding year 2020 sparked a series of protests following the killing of George Floyd in May. Many Game of Thrones Stars supported the movement that followed, Black Lives Matter, including Nathalie Emmanuel.

Nathalie Emmanuel expressed her concern about Hollywood’s response to the movement while shooting for Rollacoaster Magazine. She said, “I’m excited to see how Hollywood and the world responds to the Black Lives Matter movement.”

I’m really interested to see if people’s outrage is real or whether it was just performative, and whether we see actual change within society.”

She continued, “Also from the industry point of view – for entertainment, TV, film and media – I’m sort of curious to see how that pans out. I’m hopeful but also with a healthy amount of scepticism because sometimes it comes and goes, and there’s a few movies that get made and are great, and then it dies off again.”

Game of Thrones’ Missandei fame is skeptical to see an actual change. She explains, “For me, I’m looking for the more behind-the-scenes action: the crew, the writers, the producers, the filmmakers themselves or the directors themselves becoming more inclusive. I’m skeptical to protect my own heart.”

The discrimination based on skin-colour still prevails in our society. It is one of the markers that shows how much more we have to develop as human beings. What do you think of the Black Lives Matter movement? Talk to us in the comments below!

Emilia Clarke improvised an entire speech on Game of Thrones in just 10 minutes!

The story of Game of Thrones becomes even more intriguing as fans come to know of more secrets about the show. Entertainment Weekly editor James Hibberd’s book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon dives deep into such behind-the-screen mysteries previously unknown to the audience. The book contains detailed interviews with the cast and crew of the show. There have been many interesting revelations, including the unaired pilot of the series. The book describes another secret, the skilfulness of actress Emilia Clarke.

Director Jeremy Podeswa recounted one of Daenerys’ scenes in Hibberd’s book. The scene where Daenerys ordered the execution of one of three Meereenese noblemen was originally shot in English.

“Then [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] came down – they were watching the scene being shot – and they said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if the scene was in Valyrian?’” Podeswa recalled.

“There’s usually a lot of preparation for that sort of thing and so much consideration that goes into it. She had quite a big monologue before she sets the guy on fire,” Podeswa continued. “I went over to Emilia and I was like, ‘I know this is a really big ask, but do you think you could figure out a way to do this in Valyrian?’ She said, ‘Yeah, sure, I think I can do this.’ And I’m all, “Really?” She went off and cobbled together things that [Daenerys] had said in the past that made sense. She came back in 10 minutes and had this whole monologue down.”

“I just had to hand it to Emilia for taking on the challenge and making it completely credible,” Podeswa added. “It wasn’t tracking perfectly in Valyrian, but no fan ever noticed it. She did an amazing job.”

The 50-year-old actor revealed Leeds United was his favourite football club. He said, “I love Leeds United football club, but I won’t be depressed for days if they lose.” Waldau displayed the same amount of professionalism when asked about missing Game of Thrones.

Nikolaj revealed he doesn’t miss playing Jaime Lannister. He is done talking about the show and wanted fans to move on and appreciate his other works as well. He quips wryly, “Shall I be honest now? What I think you’d want to hear if I were you is, ‘Oh God, I was depressed for weeks; it was so difficult to get over it.’ We’d spent 10 years together so, by virtue of that, it was an emotional moment because it suddenly came to an end. But half an hour later?”

He continued with a shrug, “It took me 10 years to understand things come to a natural end. Now, I’m just an old, cynical, cold-hearted man.”
