Jason Momoa starrer Justice League will re-release with “The Snyder Cut” in 2021 on HBO Max
The final product on our screens, whether it’s a TV show or a film, is a filtered result of many stages of production. Sometimes the content works, sometimes it does not. And it’s only in the aftermath that detailed scrutiny takes place. Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa’s (Khal Drogo) 2017 film, Justice League, was the first cinematic attempt to bring together a DCEU (DC Extended Universe) team (like Marvel’s The Avengers). Despite its superhero-ensemble appeal, the film bombed on both, commercial and critical levels. But for three years, fans had been asking the makers to release the original version directed by Zack Snyder; namely ‘The Snyder Cut’. Now, after a long period of speculation, Zack Snyder himself has made the announcement for the release of the Snyder Cut, called ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ in 2021 on HBO Max.
Jason Momoa put up the poster for the film on Instagram. “Finally it’s happening,” he wrote. He thanked the fans for their constant support, “justice served. all my aloha to everyone who made this happen. all the fans. we love you”. Zack Snyder, the man behind films like 300 and Man of Steel, had directed most of Justice League when suddenly he had to step down due to a personal tragedy. Joss Whedon (The Avengers) took over and completed the film with certain reshoots and editing. The film was slammed by critics and fans alike due to its ‘light-hearted tone’. With Snyder’s announcement, the fans would hope for an original, darker take on the DCEU.
As per CBR.com, Zack has said that he’s putting together a trailer and that it would release soon. The Snyder Cut will be compiled and edited by Zack Snyder from the initial footage he shot. The film’s release on the streaming platform, HBO Max gives its producers, Warner Media (also the parent company of HBO) another chance of mining the untapped profits from its ambitious franchise.

Recently, Jason Momoa had fueled the clamor by outrightly saying, “Release the fucking Snyder Cut” in a video. “We’re just sitting around doing nothing,” Jason started off. “Fucking release the Snyder Cut, am I right? Release the fucking Snyder Cut. You know what I mean? Like, what are we waiting for? There’s some goodies in there. I’m just gonna go ahead and put it out there. Generally, the shit I put out there comes true. Let’s hope it does,” he said. And it did, indeed!
#ReleaseTheSnyderCut had been trending on social media for quite some time, and many actors from the cast had supported it. Apart from Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) had come out in demand of Zack Snyder’s version of the film. However, Henry Cavill (Superman) chose a neutral stand and wanted to focus on the future.
Now, that the revamped version of the movie will release for sure, we hope it brings a crackling light into the darkness that the cinematic landscape of DC has mostly been. Jason’s character from Justice League also has an upcoming solo movie, Aquaman 2, set to release in December 2022.
