Jeopardy! throws a slight shade at George R.R. Martin over The Winds of Winter

Writing a book is a huge task. Even more so, when it’s a novel of a fantasy fiction series on which the most popular TV show is based. And perhaps incredibly tough when you’ve been writing it for years, trying to finish what you promised long ago. Yes, we’re talking about George R. R. Martin. And yes, The Winds of Winter is on our minds. The author has earned a lot of fame and money through A Song of Ice and Fire. But the ghost of his unfinished penultimate novel in the series has got him flak from all corners of internet-crazy fan-territories.

The latest to join the caravan is Jeopardy!, a television game show popular for its questions being answers and answers being questions. In a recent episode, the show threw some shade on George R.R. Martin that caught a Reddit user’s eye who posted it on the Game of Thrones subreddit, titling it, “Jeopardy writers with the GRRM shade on today’s episode”.

In the episode, under a category named “After All These Years”, contestants needed to find the question for the following answer:

“After nearly a decade of waiting, this author assures us “The Winds of Winter” is coming – there’s an excerpt on his website.”

Contestants who aren’t familiar with Game of Thrones may have had a hard time. But all of us know the question would be: “Who is George R.R. Martin?”. The writers on Jeopardy! clearly took a dig on Martin for not being able to finish the sixth book in the series that inspired the phenomenon called Game of Thrones. For perspective, the fifth book, A Dance With Dragons released in 2011, just when Game of Thrones began.

Now, is the criticism fair or are we just dissing the author for no reason? While nobody likes getting hounded for their work, it becomes inevitable when you are this popular. With the attention that he has got, especially during the duration of the show, George has admitted that it’s been hard for him to finish what he started.

Despite that, he has had a long time and given hope about finishing The Winds on multiple occasions. So, if some of us are disappointed, they’re bound to be. Plus, it’s just testimony to the fact that how much they adore the saga. We don’t endorse the vitriol-filled wrath that people are subjected to on the internet; similar to what the creators of Game of Thrones got after the final season. But a silent, smart remark allowing your disapproval to flow casually, such as this one on Jeopardy would make even GRRM look up and smile embarrassingly. I think it lets him know that we’re waiting and watching. Indulgently, patiently!

The last we heard from Martin about The Winds of Winter, it was when he announced that he should be able to finish the book by the time he arrives in New Zealand for Worldcon 2020 (annual science fiction convention). If not, he said, the fans could lock him up in a cabin on White Island, overlooking the lake of sulphuric acid. Well, aren’t Jeopardy! writers just a wee bit tempted! The author has breached his deadlines before, he might do it again. But we’re hopeful. What about you? Do you think The Winds of Winter will release in 2020? Tell us in the comments section.

The Premiere of Killing Eve Season 3 starring Gemma Whelan moved up by two wee

The coronavirus outbreak is refusing to slow down around the world. People have been in lockdown for quite some time now depending on where they are. Amidst the chaos, there is a growing need of keeping the people inside their homes and provide them with some entertainment. With the production of most upcoming shows halted due to the pandemic, we have found some silver lining. Read on to find out more!

As per the Variety, the premiere of the third season of Killing Eve has been preponed by two weeks. The show was earlier going to release on April 26 but will be premiering now on April 12. The President of AMC networks was quoted as saying:

“We know how adored this series is and we know how keen people are for great content right now.”

He added:

“This season of ‘Killing Eve’ digs deep psychologically, and with actors like Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw the results are nothing short of astonishing. We literally couldn’t wait for fans to see it.”

The trailer of the series was released recently. Check it out!

Apart from Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, the series also stars Game of Thrones Gemma Whelan. Whelan had played the role of Yara Greyjoy in Thrones. Whelan was in the news recently when she said that she enjoys being typecast as a lesbian.

Killing Eve’s synopsis promises a lot and it looks like an interesting ride.

The synopsis states:

“The third season of the award-winning drama continues the story of two women with brutal pasts, addicted to each other but now trying desperately to live their lives without their drug of choice. For Villanelle (Jodie Comer), the assassin without a job, Eve (Sandra Oh) is dead. For Eve, the ex-MI6 operative hiding in plain sight, Villanelle will never find her. All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again. The journey back to each other will cost both of them friends, family, and allegiances…and perhaps a share of their souls.”

Great to see the AMC releasing the show early isn’t it. The fans were left disappointed when the production of network’s Walking Dead had to be halted and this should give them some respite.

George R. R. Martin says Coronavirus shutdown will give him “more time to finish The Winds Of Winter”

George R.R. Martin feels the coronavirus shutdown could give him more time to finish The Winds Of Winter

Most of us cannot recall being locked down in our homes like this ever before in our lives. It’s perhaps a once in a lifetime thing that’s happening to us. Of course, not everyone can afford to look at it like that. Coronavirus has cost us many more lives and troubles than any such pacifiers. Amidst a global lockdown, nature resets, we regroup as a community, and the health workers battle the crisis with wartime immediacy. The author who laid the foundation for Game of Thrones has sent a hopeful message towards us though. George R. R. Martin hinted that the COVID-19 shutdown might just allow him to finish The Winds of Winter (TWOW) sooner than expected.

As for how long George has been writing The Winds, you may not want to recount. But it’s been close to a decade since the last novel in A Song of Ice and Fire saga, A Dance with Dragons released in 2011; in the meanwhile, we’ve seen the conclusion of the saga in the form of the most popular show on the planet, Game of Thrones. However, GRRM’s latest post on his Not a Blog has given us hope that 2020 could be the year of the highly awaited TWOW. In a post that highlighted the effects of the virus that’s been haunting us since the beginning of this year, George said something about the sixth novel in the ASOIAF series.

“If there is a silver lining in these clouds, this will give me more time to finish WINDS OF WINTER. I continue to write every day, up here in my mountain fastness,” wrote Martin.

To remind you, George informed us about his good health and current whereabouts in another one of his blog posts. He had said that he’s in a “remote isolated location”; with one of his staff taking care of him. Moreover, he told us that he’s writing every day, spending more time in Westeros than in the real world. Thus, without any external distractions and an indefinite lockdown, TWOW could be a real possibility in 2020. With House of the Dragon still far away, this could be good news for all the fans.

The American author, in his recent post, noted that almost all the upcoming events are either postponing or canceling their schedules, while many of them have decided to go virtual; including the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) scheduled to take place in New Zealand this year. Named CoNZealand, GRRM had committed to deliver The Winds at this very event this year; though that seems like a stretch now. His cinema hall, the Jean Cocteau Cinema, and bookstore, Beastly Books are most likely to remain closed in the coming weeks, he observed; regarding the rather worsening situation due to coronavirus pandemic.

The acclaimed author has even suggested his pick of books, films, and TV series to engage ourselves during isolation. For readers, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (the Dunk & Egg novellas), and Wild Cards series by GRRM; Quillifer by Walter Jon Williams, and Aftershocks series by Marko Kloos. Among films and TV, he recommended Doctor Sleep, The Plot Against America, Ozark’s third season, HBO’s miniseries The Outsider, Westworld, and Better Call Saul.

We send our thanks and blessings to George and wish he keeps sound health. What do you guys think? Can we expect The Winds to arrive in 2020? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

Peter Sollett to direct D. B. Weiss & David Benioff’s Netflix project ‘Metal Lords’

D. B. Weiss and David Benioff are back in news again! Do not worry it has got nothing to do with the final season of Game of Thrones. After being part of a crossover between the two worlds on HBO’s Westworld, the duo has now got an able director for their upcoming Netflix project Metal Lords. Read on to find out more!

The showrunner duo of Game of Thrones had signed a huge deal with the streaming giant a few months ago and there had been lots of anticipation building around it. Now, it has been confirmed that Peter Sollett will be directing the duo’s upcoming project Metal Lords. Sollett’s work includes Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist and a few episodes of Rise and Almost Family.

As per Full Circle Cinema, Weiss and Benioff are going to be the producer along with Greg Shapiro of The Hurt Locker fame. As per the report, the film will follow two high school kids with dreams to start a heavy metal band. Additionally, they come across a girl who plays the cello and the three form a tumultuous team to compete in an upcoming battle of the bands.

The duo was recently also seen together in an episode of Westworld. Their cameo showed a dragon that looked similar to Drogon, laying dead, leading to some fans saying that HBO has finally killed the last surviving dragon. Plenty was said about that cameo too as it received mixed reactions from the fans. However, the makers of Westworld, Lisa Joy, and Jonathan Nolan, were happy about it and in fact, credited George R.R. Martin for the idea!

They had said:

“We’re also friendly with George R.R. Martin, and George had consistently since the first season said, “We’ve got to do a tie-in with ‘Game of Thrones.’” People forget that George was originally a TV writer and he came up in the TV world in which you’d occasionally have these crossover shows, which the fans would f—ing freak out over. So George had always been pitching the crossover show.”
