Kristofer Hivju talks about Game of Thrones final season, says he "loved it"

Kristofer Hivju a.k.a. Tormund Giantsbane emerged as one of the most popular actors from Game of Thrones. He managed to hold his own amongst many fine actors on the show and his portrayal of Tormund was a breath of fresh air on the show. He has now moved on to his next assignment Twin, the first look of which was revealed a week ago. Hivju recently spoke to the Winter is coming about Game of Thrones and Jon Snow! Read on.

Hivju will be seen playing a double role in his next series Twin. In the interview, he spoke about how he longed for an emotional and sober character after playing Tormund on Thrones. He said:

“Tormund was a huge character with a Shakespearean kind of style, everything is life and death. This is a totally different genre. I like to challenge myself, to do both is fantastic, but after six years on Thrones it was a pleasure to play a sober, emotional character. I longed for that, and it was a great experience.”

Hivju also got behind the show’s final season and said that he loved it.

“I loved the final season, and I think that there is something organic about the show coming to an end. I think the ending was expected; when you kill a lead character in season one, there won’t be a happy ending. So it fit what made Game of Thrones what it was. It had unexpected twists and turns, it didn’t follow the rules of storytelling, it followed the rules of life. People change, to do good or to do worse. I think, whatever end it had, people would be outraged, or like it, or disagree. That’s the name of the game.”

When asked about what his character Tormund and Jon Snow would be up to now, he replied:

“Both of them have a broken heart, but I think Jon should be glad that Tormund is around,” he added. “I think Tormund is a faster healer and Jon needs help to get out of his depression. I think they are sitting around the fireplace, and Tormund is trying to cheer him up.”

Hivju sure has a point of view and it would be fascinating to see how he goes on about his acting career post-Thrones. Let us know your views in the comments below!

Dean-Charles Chapman says he and Isaac Hempstead Wright are real-life besties

Game of Thrones ended back in 2019 leaving a number of fans with teary eyes. Over the several seasons of the series, we had grown to love many characters. Some of them died and some witnessed a big shift in their arcs – Daenerys Targaryen being the biggest example. Talking about the awesome cast members, they still feel connected like a family, having worked in the series for around nine years. Same is the case with Dean-Charles Chapman and Isaac Hempstead Wright who are real-life best friends.

Dean-Charles Chapman, who played Tommen Baratheon in Game of Thrones recently talked to Entertainment Weekly, telling them that despite sharing no screentime together in the series, he is a good friend of Isaac Hempstead Wright. He told them:

“I speak to Isaac Hempstead Wright a lot. He’s one of my best mates…I speak to him every day.”

Isaac Hempstead Wright played Bran Stark aka Three-Eyed Raven in the series and didn’t share any screentime with Dean. Yet, these actors have often been seen together on Social Media. A common thing among them is that both of them were crowned the King of the Seven Kingdoms in the series.

Chapman is being praised for his role in the movie 1917 as Lance Corporal Thomas Blake. The movie is up for 10 Oscars this year at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Sam Mendes. The movie also stars another Game of Thrones alum, Richard Madden (who played Robb Stark in the series) as Lieutenant Joseph Blake.

Chapman was delighted when he got the news that Madden would be playing his brother in the movie. He told the EW:

“I remember [Mendes] telling me, at a table read, I asked who’s going to be playing my brother, and he said Richard Madden…My first reaction is, I don’t look anything like Richard Madden, so I can’t see that. But in the film, Richard did a really good job of trying to sound like Blake as well. So that worked.”

So what your reaction to this update on Dean Charles Chapman? Tell us in the comments.

Nathalie Emmanuel defends the show's finale and slams the petition signed by fans

Game of Thrones continues to receive the support from its cast members amidst the relentless criticism of the show’s final season. From Emilia Clarke to Gemma Whelan everyone has expressed their displeasure at fans’ reactions towards the show. Now, we have a new addition to the list. Read on to find out more!

As per TV Line, Nathalie Emmanuel a.k.a. Missandei on the show has now backed the show’s ending and also defended the fate of her character on the show. Speaking about her character she said:

“I was very grateful for the strength that she had when she left. That was a performance choice for me,” she added “I was like, ‘She’s not going to be crying. She’s not going to be stereotypically scared. She’s scared, but she owns it.”

Emmanuel praised the strength of her character and said:

“This woman survived slavery. She knew that she might go to war and die. And she’s owning it like a badass bitch, And I felt like that’s what I did. I was very proud of it.”

Emmanuel, however, wasn’t exactly pleased with the way the show has been criticized from all quarters, especially by the fans. She was especially critical of the petition signed by the fans demanding the Season 8 to be made by competent writers. She said:

“Listen, I think it’s totally fine if you don’t like something. That’s perfectly acceptable. What I didn’t like was that people were signing a petition,” She explained, “You can’t ask for receipts on art. You just can’t. The art has been created for you, and you can either choose to like it or not.”

She went on to add that she was “blown away” by the show’s ending. According to her, the finale was “a hard plane to land. I don’t think people quite realize the undertaking and the amount of manpower it took to do that.”

Well, we feel the cast and crew members will continue to defend the show till eternity. It is, after all, a show that made their lives.

What do you guys reckon? Did you like Missandei’s character and ultimately her fate on the show? Let us know in the comments below!

Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger) was shocked by the nasty reaction to Game of Thrones Season 8

Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger) was shocked by the nasty reaction to Game of Thrones season 8

Game of Thrones has had a great run through the course of its telecast. Barring the last two seasons, the last one, in particular, the story was appreciated for its build-up and delivery. The final season kind of imploded in the sense that many fans across the world felt it was rushed and simplistic. We are well aware of the criticism that followed, especially on the internet. Some of it was quite ugly and the brunt of it was faced by the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Most of the cast members have expressed their minds about the ending of the show and the fans’ reaction. Yet now and then, we hear something new from one of the cast or crew. The latest name on the list is Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger). Last November, he received the Bram Stoker Medal of Cultural Achievement by the University Philosophical Society at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland; thus he was invited for a Q&A session at the society. He spoke about a host of things about films and television, among which was his reaction to the reception of Game of Thrones Season 8.

“There was a lot of flak about the eighth season of Game of Thrones,” Aidan recounted. He went on, “I was astounded. The mentality there’s nowadays when people go on Twitter and slag the fuck out of everything; I really hate it. I am not on any social media…It’s a really nasty strain of behavior that’s come with all of that technology…For people to turn on the writers of something that people had adored for seven seasons in such a nasty fashion, as they did, I was really taken aback. I really was.”

While the reaction of the audience was shocking for Aidan, his perception about the last season is largely positive.

“I thought that some of the best scenes, the best sequences, of Game of Thrones were in the last season. I don’t have any doubt about that. They ended it the only way that they could end it; which was strangely reminiscent of how it began – there’s people sitting in this land which seems to have some kind of stability, but there’s also uncertainty and threat, which is, I suppose, what the world is like all the time,” he said.

The ending of the show became a talking point everywhere; many of us might agree with Aidan that the final points at which characters stood at the end were justified and reflective of their journeys. The Irish actor, however, did wish for something to be done differently.

“There was a part of me that wanted it to end about 20 minutes before it did. It’s just that it was an image that was so fantastic- the dragon flying away, carrying Daenerys Targaryen- that was stunning. I thought the episode before was fucking amazing!” Gillen commented. He concluded by saying, “Yeah I was (happy with the ending). I thought it was impossible to end that story.”

That sight of Drogon carrying Dany away was unexpected and heart-breaking. But if it had ended there, we wouldn’t have known who won the Game of Thrones or who became the King/Queen of ashes. People were too invested and involved in the story to not know how things were placed in the aftermath of Daenerys’ demise. Whatever the opinion, at least we have closure now; a culmination of long drawn events that ironically began with Petyr Baelish’s move to eliminate Jon Arryn. Littlefinger was perhaps the most passive-aggressive player in the game. Although his schemes and plans posed an ominous threat, his end was rather quick when the Stark sisters joined hands in season 7.

He spoke a bit about his character too, “I always wanted people to like that character, Littlefinger! And it is written that way in the books, that he’s charming. And he would have to be charming to get into those circles he did and manipulate the way he did… He was driven by being spurned; he loved somebody he couldn’t have. Then there was this whole strange relationship with Sansa Stark, which was his undoing. And it was about a warped romantic idea, which I am really glad didn’t come to anything.”

Amongst all the chaos, Aidan Gillen got unanimous praise for his cunning-and-whispering portrayal of Lord Baelish. Chaos is, after all, a ladder. He is starring as Dr. J Allen Hynek (an astronomer and professor) in Project Blue Book; a sci-fi historical period drama based on a series of studies on UFOs conducted under the same name by US Air Force. The second season premiered in January 2020.

What do you guys think about Aidan’s remarks? Tell us in the comments section.
