Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss sign $200 million deal with Netflix

Game of Thrones is over now. The show made stars out of a lot of actors, but they aren’t the only people that ended up making gold from the success of this show. Pretty much everybody involved with the show is now in some serious demand, and most of all, it’s the showrunners — David Benioff and Dan Weiss. The pair have now managed to snatch a giant deal with Netflix, which will be their new home. Read on!

Now, we all know about Netflix and how aggressively it’s trying to expand its content library by bringing in some big names. Their latest “acquisitions” are the creators of the Game of Thrones TV series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who have signed a deal that is being said to be in the ballpark of $200 million. The pair said in a statement:

“We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber. We remember the same shots from the same ’80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honored they invited us to join them.”

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos also released a statement:

“We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

Other possible deals included big names like Amazon, and Disney, the latter of which already have a work arrangement with the pair, for the Star Wars franchise. With their first Star Wars film set for a 2022 release, it will be interesting to see when Benioff and Weiss get started with their work with Netflix. As far as HBO goes, the studio couldn’t keep up with the offers but will credit the two as executive producers on any Game of Thrones prequels that appear in the future.

Seth Rogen brutally criticized the Game of Thrones ending at San Diego Comic-Con 2019

Game of Thrones Season 8 still has fans mad, and one of those fans seems to be the coolest guy in Hollywood — Seth Rogen. As we had reported, the Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss had dropped out of the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and looks like Seth took it upon himself to talk about Game of Thrones. Read on!

Speaking at SDCC 2019, Seth had blunt criticism for Game of Thrones Season 8 and the showrunners:

“I just wanna say we’re following the Game of Thrones panel, which is a f***ing nightmare, just objectively. I also know that the showrunners didn’t turn up, because they didn’t want to answer questions about the show… I’m not one of the creators of Game of Thrones, I am the creator of other TV shows, so feel free to ask me any Game of Thrones questions you might have throughout the night.”

He was asked what he thought of the ending, to which he replied:

“I imagine those guys regret making Bran the King because, ultimately, he doesn’t have the best story. [Arya] learned all that face shit, where’d it go?”

He also commented on Jaime and Cersei’s deaths, and said he would have liked it better if Jaime killed Cersei:

“I do, honestly. You don’t want to follow these people for three years and then have them die in rubble. Anti-climactic.”

Well, Rogen makes some good points. What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau gets booed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 for defending Jaime's ending

Game of Thrones Season 8 is still not done getting all the hate the fanbase thinks it deserves. Like we had reported, the fans were planning on confronting showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss at San Diego but they dropped off from the panel at the last moment. Looks like the fans voiced a bit of their displeasure anyway, booing Nikolaj Coster-Waldau instead. Read on!

As you might know, Game of Thrones had a panel at SDCC 2019, in Hall H, one last time. A few of the stars were present at the panel, including Nikolaj, who played Jaime Lannister on the show. Speaking at the panel, Nikolaj defended Jaime’s death and his return to Cersei by leaving Brienne behind, saying it made sense to him, and that it was perfect for the character. This drew in a few boos from the crowd. Check out the video:

Nikolaj just laughed it off and went on to discuss the hate that Season 8 and the ending received:

“It was surprising the level of absurdity of the online petition. Every season, we had huge controversies. From Ned Stark being killed, ‘I’m never going to watch that piece of shit show again!’ And then there was the Red Wedding. And obviously, the end. I feel so lucky to have met so may fans of the show, and to realize this show has brought so many people together. Watching it, loving it. So obviously, It comes to an end, it’s going to piss you off no matter what. It’s the end! But at the end of the day, it’s absolutely fine. If you hated the ending if you loved it, that’s great. Just don’t call people names.”

Makes sense. What do you guys think? Still mad about Season 8? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Game of Thrones showrunners pull out of San Diego Comic-Con 2019 panel following public backlash

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been under fire ever since the Season 8 plot went to a place where the fans didn’t like it going. We have seen them being Google-bombed into being the top result for “bad writers” on Google, and we have seen fans planning to boo them at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, ever since their presence at the Hall H panel for Game of Thrones was announced. Now it seems like the pair have pulled out of the panel at the last minute. Read on!

The panel was recently announced, to be held in Hall H, on 19th July, at 5.30 p.m. The confirmed attendees included Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei of Naath), Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont), Conleth Hill (Varys), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), along with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and director and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik.

A new update now says that the two showrunners will not appear, and additionally, Iain Glen, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Miguel Sapochnik seem to have also called off their appearances. The reason cited seems to be scheduling conflicts, but the fans just won’t buy it.

The fan reactions have been extreme, with most of the fanbase being mad about the fact that the showrunners are avoiding a confrontation. The panel will continue with other stars listed on the panel and is scheduled to occur in a few hours from now.

Well, what do you guys think? Should David and Dan have attended SDCC 2019 anyway? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
