Wouldn't mind playing Arya Stark again "down the road," says Maisie Williams

Game of Thrones might have just ended, but there are a lot of stories the show either didn’t get to finish or left open-ended. One such storyline belongs to Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, whom we saw wander out to discover what’s west of Westeros. Now, Maisie has said that she would be open to returning as Arya, in the future. Read on!

Speaking to Tings Magazine, Maisie discussed the possibility of a Game of Thrones spin-off that included the original characters, reports Canoe :

“I can hand-over-my-heart say that I don’t think there’s going to be a spin off. The show was only what it was because of David (Benioff) and Dan (Weiss), the show’s creators.”

She continued:

“They brought me into this world and it would be strange to do something without them. But I do think playing Arya again would be wonderful. I miss her a lot. I think the show needs to stew for a little bit, but maybe a ways down the road…?”

Well, that does give us hopes. An Arya Stark follow-up show in say, a decade, showing what she did discover and what she did with all the “No One” skills she picked, would honestly be amazing. Maisie continued to talk about what she is doing right now, and some future plans:

“Now that I’ve been given some time off, it’s not like I’m never going to act again, but I’m just trying to figure out some other things that I enjoy. I don’t want to sign another 10-year contract for a while. A lot of TV is incredible right now but those shooting schedules are just wild.

At the moment, I’m just reading a lot and figuring out what’s out there.”

What do you guys think? Would you want an Arya Stark spin-off? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Carice Van Houten speaks about moving on from Melisandre to more relatable roles

Carice Van Houten speaks about moving on from Melisandre to more relatable roles

Do one thing for a long time and you might just hate it, or absolutely fall in love with it. However, the one thing that’s certain is you get used to it. Game of Thrones went on for 10 long years. And the recurring characters have had to don their familiar avatars almost every single year. Melisandre was one such character whose light apparently kept burning bright throughout the journey. Carice Van Houten, the actress who played the Red Woman, talked to Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). She spoke about moving on from the gigantic show to more basic, human characters. Read on!

Carice Van Houten speaks to EW about moving on from Melisandre to more relatable roles

She said:

“I did feel cravings towards a close-to-the-skin drama, and to act roles that are vulnerable. I really missed focusing on that, because Game of Thrones was such a huge show.”

An actor mostly relies on human experiences and tiny details from their own life to layer their characters with relatability and genuineness. But being a larger than life show Game of Thrones had some characters, which didn’t have normal humane qualities; like that of Melisandre or the Night King. So, one has to put on a facade built out of imagination and wonder. Houten played a role that required her to remain icy cold with emotions; since what are emotions really when everything is the Lord of the Light‘s will!

The Dutch actress moves forward with her new movie, Instinct. Talking about the film, she says,

“This is just focused on human behavior, and is very close-to-the-skin. Something that I could really put my teeth into, so to speak. So yes, I am really ready for that again.”

Instinct is a Dutch drama directed by Halina Reijn. Carice Houten plays the role of Nicoline, a psychologist who gets involved with a seemingly manipulative Idris (Marwan Kenzari), a serial sex offender while treating him in a rehabilitation facility. The film got screened at the 2019 TIFF in the category of Contemporary World Cinema.

She elaborated on her experience with Game of Thrones:

“I really loved the idea of it (Game of Thrones) being a family and something that returned and it was a constant factor in my life and it was a great role. I met beautiful people, but yes, it’s seven years of this character and at some point, you have to let it go. And luckily she died, so there’s no return. In a really nice way, I say that.”

Carice Van Houten speaks to EW about moving on from Melisandre to more relatable roles

We were all looking forward to the Red Woman’s role in the final scheme of things; especially after she told Varys in season 7 that she was going to die in this strange country just like him. Varys’ expressions to that were priceless. The cold-hearted enchantress didn’t disappoint us. She played a buoyant role in the final fight against the Night King and his dead army by providing fire at crucial moments.

When all was said and done, she walked out onto the snow for one last time, stripping herself bare of the magical necklace, accepting her fate as the long life turned to dust. It was a turnaround for a character who had been despised and ostracized for a long time. We liked it! What are your thoughts? Tell us in the comments below.

Gwendoline Christie discusses Brienne’s first sexual experience, Emmy nomination and more

Gwendoline Christie discusses Brienne's first sexual experience, Emmy nomination and more

Game of Thrones has been a milestone in the history of television in more ways than one. Not only did the show drive television to a point where the production quality is as good as films, but it has also been at the forefront of driving female characters into the lead actor limelight. One such character was Brienne of Tarth, played by Gwendoline Christie, who has even bagged herself an Emmy nomination. In a recent interview, she discussed her character, the nomination, and more. Read on!

PEOPLE did an Emmy feature on the actress, and we got some interview bits from it.

Starting off, she discussed her character, and how it changed things for her:

“George R.R. Martin created a really phenomenal female character, the like of which we are not really used to seeing on television. I love that she has so much unabashed physical strength, but we also see the complexity of her struggle with her physical self and how she fits into a man’s world.

I have been really encouraged by the response from women to that warrior. A woman who is a warrior but who also has a very deep sensitivity, a very strong moral sense and a deeply rich emotional world which she struggles to hide. I hope what it means is that we see more three-dimensional female characters, and I hope this signals the end of female parts that are merely the girlfriend and mother.”

Gwen also discussed Brienne’s first sexual experience, which happened in Season 8, with Jaime Lannister:

I love that Brienne elects to have this romantic moment with Jaime Lannister and that it’s her choice to have that. And, ultimately, what was my favorite point was that she gets the promotion that she’s always wanted. She is Lord Commander of the king’s guard. And how it ends is not about her relationship with a man, but about her fulfilling her destiny and her work. And that’s delighted me. That the woman goes back to work!”

She then discussed submitting herself for Emmy consideration after HBO left her out of their roster, and why she did it:

“I just really wanted the possibility of the opportunity. I wanted the possibility of that opportunity because of everything I believe the character Brienne of Tarth represents: a woman outside of the patriarchy. Of course, she is abused due to the way that she looks, because she’s not deemed conventionally attractive. She overcomes that and she remains her own person.

Just because of what I feel that represents in television, I really wanted the possibility of the opportunity as a testament to the character,” she continues. “And also, I worked really hard. So I checked it wasn’t an inappropriate thing to do, I was told it wasn’t — people do it all the time.”

She apparently didn’t expect to be nominated at all:

“I don’t think anyone on earth thought it would happen. And it has and it’s genuinely one of the best things that’s happened to me in my life.”

Well, let’s hope she wins the Emmy! What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
