Nikolaj Coster-Waldau takes us through the moments that led to Jaime's return to Cersei

The collective heart of Game of Thrones fandom broke when Jaime Lannister decided to end his brief romance with Brienne and returned to Cersei’s side. Many fans felt this move was illogical and ruined Jaime’s redemption arc. However, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime, disagrees, as he revealed in a recent interview. Read on!

In an interview with HBO’s official Game of Thrones blog, Nikolaj pinpointed the exact moments in Season 8 episode 4 that led to Jaime’s final decision. Arrogant, selfish, murderous — Jaime Lannister started as an out-and-out villainous character in Game of Thrones. However, we saw his character go through a sea-change after he meets Brienne of Tarth. Not only he becomes a better man but he also finds genuine respect and love in her companionship. When Jaime and Brienne consummated their relationship in episode 4 ‘The Last of the Starks’, it seemed he finally had a chance at a normal life again.

But just a few scenes later Jaime is sneaking out in the night to get back to Cersei, and even Brienne’s tears and pleas couldn’t stop him. What happened? Coster-Waldau picks out two moments — Bronn’s arrival, and a comment made by Sansa Stark after she learns Daenerys’ dragon has been killed. Let’s hear it from himself:

“Bronn appears and Jaime realizes he was sent there by Cersei to kill him and Tyrion — it’s this strange reality check. Cersei has a way of making sure you don’t forget about her.”

After this forced remembrance, comes the realization that Cersei might have provoked Daenerys too far with Rhaegal’s death. He has already experienced what happens when a dragon comes to battle and knows that by underestimating Daenerys, Cersei is making a fatal mistake. Jaime’s life-long protective instincts kick in and he decides to return to Cersei. In Coster-Waldau’s words:

“[Jaime’s] staying in Winterfell is unrealistic. Cersei is the most important person in his life, whether he wants her to be or not. The idea that he was going to just let her die alone, is too horrible for him.”

Brienne’s “pure and innocent” love thus loses out before the almost inevitable loyalty Jaime feels toward Cersei, despite all her faults. Coster-Waldau observes:

“In a different world, Jaime would’ve stayed with Brienne … There is a part of him that wishes he could not be who he is … it’s supposed to end well for these two, they’ve been through so much together — but that’s not how it goes.”

This is Game of Thrones, after all, where the unexpected is the norm. Coster-Waldau puts it succinctly when he recalls Ramsay Bolton’s famous line: “If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention.”

Emilia Clarke calls Game of Thrones Season 8 backlash flattering, again

Game of Thrones stars have been faced with questions about their reactions about the ending of the show, and they don’t seem to stop. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys, has had a very positive response before, calling it flattering, and now she’s called it fragile again, in a recent interview. Read on!

Emilia has previously called previously called the Season 8 backlash “profoundly flattering”, and that seems to have become her go-to answer now, when asked about it. She was recently on This Morning to promote her new film, Last Christmas, where she discussed the backlash that Game of Thrones Season 8 received, repeating her previous comments:

“On every level, it’s just profoundly flattering that people genuinely cared that much and they were with us for that long and that they really, truly believed in it.”

She continued:

“I don’t read anything online really because it doesn’t help my brain, but largely speaking I think people are being really kind about Daenerys and Mother Dragon and backing me up, so that’s lovely.

I don’t think there’s an ending that anyone could’ve written. No matter how many signatures were on any bit of paper, you just can’t and that is really just so flattering.”

Well, what do you guys think? Was your backlash supposed to be flattering? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Would love to play James Bond in case of a gender switch, says Emilia Clarke

Game of Thrones stars have a lot of opportunities going forward, because of how successful the show was. While Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys, recently said she doesn’t want to do big franchise projects anymore, there seems to be one franchise that could entice her. Read on!

In a recent interview with Empire, Emilia was asked if she would like to step into the role of James Bond, and she had a very positive response:

“Yeah! Of course! Hell to the yeah.”

She continued:

“James Bond is one of those franchises where it’s never not cool. You could literally make the naffest James Bond in the world and it would still be cool.”

Emilia also reflected on the luxuries that her part on Game of Thrones has fetched her, and how it has motivated her to launch her own production house:

“I’ve had the good fortune of being in this incredible show with this incredible character. And, my goodness, if I were to get stereotyped as the mother of dragons, I could ask for worse. It’s really quite wonderful.”

She went on:

“But what it’s left me with — after 10 years of seeing that, and being a part of that, and of doing quite big movies in my hiatuses and all of those things — is a yearning for a different sort of creative ownership.”

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Emilia as Bond? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

Here’s where Emilia Clarke thinks Drogon went at the end of Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones ended with a bad fate for Emilia Clarke‘s Daenerys Targaryen. We saw Drogon fly off with his mother’s corpse, and we have since then had a question: where did Drogon fly off to? Well, Emilia has a theory about that. Read on!

In the series finale of Game of Thrones, we had to see Jon Snow betray Daenerys, and Drogon, late to the party, rage for a while and then simply fly off with a dead Daenerys. Emilia Clarke recently did a lie detector interview with Vanity Fair, which makes for a pretty great watch. Of course, she discussed Daenerys and her fate at the end of Thrones. Watch the full 18 minute video, below:

She was asked about who her favourite dragon of the three dragon children, to which she replied:

“Drogon is kind of like, he’s my oldest boy, who was the first, really. When the three of them came out, I think he came out first.”

She was then asked if she knew where Drogon was headed, to which she had the best response:

“I’d like to think he went to Hawaii. I know there is a specific place where dragons go [that’s in the books]. Otherwise he’s just roaming the seas. Crying.”

Well, if only Bran the Broken could verify this. What do you guys think? Talk to us in the comments, below!
