George R.R. Martin (sort of) announces new deadline for Winds of Winter

martin gives deadline for winds of winter

He has broken our hearts before, maybe he will again. But for now, the Ice and Fire fandom can hope a little. George R.R. Martin has yet again set a new deadline within which – he says – Winds of Winter should be done. It’s not a date per se – but Martin sure sounds like he thinks he will be done and dusted with the sixth book in A Song of Ice and Fire series by July 2020.

Martin made this assertion in his blog, in response to Air New Zealand’s cheeky new advert which invites him to visit the gloriously beautiful Kiwi country in case he needs even more inspiration to finish the books. Here’s the advert:

Martin thanked them but politely declined the offer, asserting that he finds NZ too fascinating to really find time to write – he’d probably be off exploring all the time. But he also let drop that he is, in fact, visiting NZ anyway, during the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) due in July 2020.

Now here’s where things get interesting. Martin writes: “I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done. Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”

That…is not exactly a full commitment to a deadline, but it is something. Given that Martin himself had stopped setting out deadlines of any kinds after he repeatedly failed to keep them, this is what we have closest to an actual announcement in many months.

Of course, all of this may come to nought and Martin may fail the date yet again (And I have this nagging suspicion that Martin will actually quite enjoy that acid lake experience). But he has seemed quite serious about getting Winds of Winter done lately, going so far as to decline a cameo in Game of Thrones Season 8. So this time, maybe this time, Martin actually keeps his word?

Game of Thrones fans raise more than $55000 for Kit Harington’s charity, Mencap

Game of Thrones fans might have hated the final season of the show, but they aren’t holding off their love for the stars of the show. Only recently, we had reported that fans of the show from Reddit had helped raise over $30,000 for Emilia Clarke’s charity, a figure that has hit $137,000 by now. Looks like the fans didn’t stop there. They have now raised over $55,000 for Kit Harington’s charity, Mencap. Read on!

The campaign was started by Redditor u/AlpineJ0e, and is hosted on JustGiving.com. It’s dedicated to Mencap, a charity Kit Harington has supported for years, which works for equal rights and opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Maisie Williams' X-Men movie "The New Mutants" gets its release date delayed again

Game of Thrones might be over, but the careers of its stars are far from it. The stars have moved on with other big projects already. Notably, the Stark sisters, i.e, Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Maisie Williams (Arya) both landed roles in the X-Men Universe. Sophie’s film, Dark Phoenix, recently released in theatres, but Maisie’s The New Mutants has been delayed, for the third time now. Read on!

Now, some of you might be aware that Disney bought Fox out, bringing the rights to the X-Men films back into the family. This means that the fate of ongoing projects hangs in the balance, and The New Mutants is one of them. The movie, which stars Maisie Williams, was initially set to release on April 13, 2018, which was then pushed to February 22, 2019, and once more to August 2, 2019. A new press release by Disney reveals the film has been pushed one more time, to April 3, 2020.

The New Mutants producer Simon Kinberg told Digital Spy the reason behind the latest rescheduling:

“What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. That’s really it.

Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.”

Well, let’s just hope that it’s good when it does get released. Disney is surely bound to pick up feedback from Dark Phoenix, which bombed at the box office, with the worst reception for an X-Men movie, ever.

Johnnie Walker has previously made a scotch with the Game of Thrones branding before, called White Walker. After that, they released a series of eight whiskies, each for one great House of Westeros. and this time around, they’re going with an Ice and Fire theme, one for each. The new pair will be straight up called A Song of Ice and Fire. Take a look:

We have no more details about the taste of the new scotch range, although we expect the two be in contrast with each other. However, preorders are now open, with one 750ml bottle marked at the price of $43. You can pre-order yours, here. They will be available in October 2019.

Are you guys gonna get a bottle, or maybe two? Tell us in the comments, down below!
