Lord Varys tried to poison Daenerys Targaryen in the latest Game Of Thrones episode

Daenerys went full raging mad in the latest Game Of Thrones episode and burnt down King’s Landing. The Bells had rung. The surrender was declared. And yet the daughter of the Mad King Aerys burnt everything down to ashes. Everyone who came there with her seemed taken aback by this (except Greyworm who was probably angry about the brutal death of his love).

But there was one person who knew this all along – Lord Varys, the Master of Whisperers.

After knowing Jon’s truth from Tyrion, Varys seemed pretty sure that Jon would make a much better ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. He was seen trying to convince Tyrion and later Jon, both of who reminded him that what he was speaking was treason and that Daenerys was their queen.

Varys was also seen writing letters to someone with the truth about Jon’s parents. But there was something else that gave Varys’ intentions out. An exchange with a little girl called Martha right at the beginning of the episode.

The exchange went as below –

Varys: Nothing?
Martha: She won’t eat.
Varys: We’ll try again at supper.
Martha: I think they’re watching me.
Varys: Who?
Martha: Her soldiers.
Varys: Of course they are. That’s their job. What have I told you, Martha?
Martha: The bigger the risk, the bigger reward.
Varys: Go on. They’ll be missing you in the kitchen.

Varys had already started plotting against Daenerys and he wouldn’t have cared even if she went hungry. Martha in this scene was visibly under stress. She was afraid. Had the food been normal, she wouldn’t have been so scared of the soldiers watching her. So in essence Varys was trying to do something diabolical. Poison the queen. When he was about to be burnt alive, his last words to Tyrion were –

I hope I deserve this. Truly, I do. I hope I’m wrong. Goodbye old friend.

Game of Thrones is over, but HBO has no plans of slowing down. Immediately after Game of Thrones ended, HBO aired a limited series called Chernobyl, which became an instant hit. Chernobyl is a mini-series about the nuclear plant disaster in the Ukrainian city of the same name, in 1986, and has been named the best ever miniseries by TV enthusiasts worldwide, except maybe in Russia. George took to Twitter to express his love for the series:

Not only did he praise the show, but also Jared Harris, whose performance in the show has been loved by the fans as much as the series itself. Needless to say, the show is expected to shine in the awards season, as Martin expects.

See Tormund and Gendry enjoy a game on Nintendo Switch in Game of Thrones behind the scenes photo

Game of Thrones had the ultimate face-off in Season 8 when the Army of the Dead faced the living folks in Winterfell. The Battle of Winterfell saw a lot of people uniting to take down the Night King, and among them were Tormund Giantsbane, and Gendry (now Baratheon). A new behind the scenes photo from the sets shows the two enjoying a nice game on a Nintendo Switch. Read on!

The picture, posted on the Game of Thrones subreddit, shows Joe Dempsie, who played Gendry, and Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, still in their costume and the bloody makeup, just sitting down to play. Take a look:

[NO SPOILERS] Gendry and Tormund playing games in Winterfell after The Battle of Winterfell from gameofthrones

As we all know, the Battle of Winterfell sequences took a gruesome 55 nights to film, and have been described by the stars as some of the roughest times they have had filming for the show. So it’s no surprise that they would have at least some way to relax on the sets in between takes or appearances.

Nintendo consoles are also famous for being the best for the local multiplayer experience, so that’s probably why these two seem so engrossed in the game. If only we knew which game they were playing!
