“I wasn’t expecting that to ever happen,” says Gwendoline Christie on Brienne and Jaime’s relationship

Game of Thrones Season 8 episode 4 “The Last of the Starks” saw the much-anticipated union of Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. However, sad as it is, the union also didn’t last long, with Jaime leaving Brienne to go south to try and save Cersei. In an interview with Time, Gwendoline Christie, who plays the role of Brienne, talked about how she felt about the whole thing that went down between the two characters. Read on!

Speaking of Jaime and Brienne finally having sex, Gwendoline said:

“I was quite surprised actually because I wasn’t expecting that to ever happen at all so it took me quite a while to digest.”

She continued:

“The way I had conceived that the relationship was written was that it had no clear outset to it. I never felt that it was purely about romantic love. What I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was exploring all these different machinations of the stages that the relationship would go through — the fact that it would move from distaste to admiration to a feeling of intimacy to anger to all of these different things.”

Gwendoline then talked about how episode 3, “The Long Night” set up this particular plot point:

“After the Great War in episode 3, I thought it was fascinating exploring the idea of what happens after those kinds of battles when people have pushed themselves to such extreme physical, emotional and mental levels.

I thought it was really beautiful that prior to the war, they had all been contemplating what may have been their last night on Earth. Then they managed to cheat death and so I suppose it feels like life is up for grabs really. It felt to me like the idea of acting on euphoria. What I particularly liked and I thought was important was that Brienne chooses that moment to occur. She chooses to have sex. It’s her choice. I felt that was really important.”

"I was quite surprised," says Gwendoline Christie about Brienne and Jaime in "The Last of the Starks"

She then spoke about the scene where Jaime leaves, and we see Brienne just break down crying:

“I don’t think Brienne knows in that moment exactly what he’s saying. I don’t think she knows whether it’s that he can’t overlook his bond with his sister, whether it’s too frightening to overlook that, whether change is too much for him or whether he’s protecting her. But I think it’s very clear that whatever its motivations, it is rejection. And what I loved about that scene is that we’ve never seen Brienne decide to grab the chance for something new and optimistic.”

We’ve never seen her chance romantic love. She has no sexual experience and she decides to allow herself that opportunity. And I don’t think she’s a fool. I think that she’s very aware — due to the closeness of Jaime and Brienne’s relationship over the years — where that intimacy with his sister lies and how much it means to him, but also how dysfunctional it is. But in a way it can be perceived that that was the inevitable. I think when someone grasps for a rare moment of optimism in their lives, it’s incredibly killing to see that dashed, to see that just smashed.”

She also said that it was brilliant to see a side of Brienne we hadn’t seen before, and we could not agree more. What did you guys think about this story arc? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

This better not be the last we see of Brienne or how we remember this character. She deserves far better. I know GOT is notorious for lack of happier endings but I think they need to do so for her, especially after this last episode

Game of Thrones’ Iain Glenn revealed how he got into acting

Most of the celebrities we see on the big screen started from humble beginnings. Some of the Game of Thrones stars joined the series young. They sort of grew up with the series like Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). Others joined the show when they were already famous. Like the Scottish actor Iain Glenn, who played the heroic knight Ser Jorah Mormont.

Iain didn’t initially consider acting as a career. He was kind of forced into it by his friends while studying at Aberdeen University. Glenn talked to the Irish Examiner about his humble beginnings.

It was there that friends of mine got involved and I was slightly dragged against my will into it. I had no idea what actors were and that you could earn a living for what they did.”

He continued, “I felt that I could occupy that space in my imagination where I believe the world in which I was standing in and seemed to be able to project that in a small way. I just got really addicted very quickly for that feeling. I bumped into it very accidentally, I had no great desire, I didn’t even know what it was until I was 18, really.”

Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is done talking about the show

Sometimes a show becomes so popular, it often hides other accomplishments of its cast. The show becomes their identity, people often recognize them by their character from the show. Game of Thrones is an example of such a franchise. The fantasy series became the biggest show of the past decade, both in terms of its budget and viewership. However, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister on the show, is done talking about it.

In a recent interview with the Independent, Waldau revealed he wanted fans to recognize his other works too. He said, “Over those eight seasons, I did two films every year more or less. But obviously, the success of the show, which is so enormous, makes however big those other successes are pale in comparison. I worked more weeks on other shows than Game of Thrones. In my world, those other jobs took up much more space than Jaime Lannister did.”

One such job was the small-town thriller The Silencing, released earlier this year. “The script had been around for a couple of years,” he said. “I just liked the basic story of a guy who’s a drunk and then loses his daughter. Normally, in a story, that’s when the change would happen, but it doesn’t. I thought that was interesting.”

Pedro Pascal was wooed by Baby Yoda's charms on the Mandalorian

An actor needs to interact with the camera, co-stars and objects on the set to make the most out of their performance. There are times when they get attached to a prop on-set. It becomes a part of their character and memories connected to their performance on the show. Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner brought the prop used as the Winterfell throne to her home. Another Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is very fond of a prop from a set (not from Game of Thrones, though).

Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian has managed to steal the show from the series’ main star, Pedro himself. Although, Pedro doesn’t seem to complain. In fact, the actor himself seems to have fallen in love with the charms of Baby Yoda.

In PEOPLE’s latest issue, Pascal revealed he was ‘immediately convinced’ to join the series after seeing Baby Yoda’s concept art. He often ended up ‘cooing a little bit’ on set with the puppet.

“I’d then have conversations in the same way that we did when we were kids with our own little toys,” Pascal said. “It has everything to do with the amount of work that these people have put into it, because it’s a very, very special creation, and it feels as such when you see it in person.”
