Jaime knighting Brienne was ‘an act of love’, says Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Arise, Ser Brienne of Tarth, knight of the Seven Kingdoms“, so proclaimed Jaime Lannister. The entire Game of Thrones fandom was in tears even as Brienne broke into a glowing smile. Speaking about the already iconic scene to The Wrap, Nikolaj ‘Jaime’ Coster-Waldau confirms what all of us were thinking – Jaime knighted Brienne as a way to express his love for her.

The knighting of Brienne was one of the most memorable moments in last Sunday’s episode, and perhaps the entire show. When asked about his decision to knight Brienne on the spur of the moment, Coster-Waldau said,

“I mean, it’s clearly a woman that he has enormous admiration for and just a human being that he admires. And we saw a scene earlier [in the episode] where he asks if he can serve under her, because he knows she is amazing at what she does and she’s a great warrior and she has all the qualities and is the most deserving of the title of knight of anyone in that world. So I think it’s obviously an act of love.”

Oh-kay!

So does that point to some romantic possibilities in the coming episodes between our favourite lady knight and redemptive bad boy pair? Coster-Waldau is very careful with that answer.

“I mean, we have another four episodes to go, so I think that the less I say about them the better. You know, what she did in the beginning — she saved his life …by vouching for him and clearly there’s a lot of respect [there].”

As always, Coster-Waldau is quick to acknowledge the ‘competition’ – namely, Tormund Giantsbane. The lovable wildling has been trying to win Brienne’s love for several seasons now with hilarious results. But it was his question that actually set in motion the whole knighting ceremony.

For Jaime, women being barred from knighthood was a normal thing. He needed Tormund’s outsider perspective to see there may be some injustice there.

Coster-Waldau states as much when he says,

“I don’t think he thought of it, but then when you hear Tormund Giantsbane go, ‘Well, why can’t a woman be a knight?’ and then she goes, ‘tradition,’ and he says ‘f**k tradition’ — it kind of, I think that inspires him, that moment.”

The best episode of the entire series because of this scene.

I thought that Jaime was soft on Brienne when we saw them share a bath. I thought there was love in the air back then. She was a MUCH better woman than Cersei….and I think Jaime knew it..

House of The Dragon co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik says the show has a different tone than Game of Thrones

House of The Dragon Co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik says the show has a different tone than Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is a hot topic over all the social media platforms, as periodic leaks cause waves of reactions and excitement amongst curious fans. The teaser trailer received a largely positive response from the audience, and fans are expecting a lot from the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel. The series’ co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik has a small message for the viewers waiting impatiently for the show – it will be a having a very different tone than the original show.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sapochnik said, “I think we were very respectful of what the original show is. It wasn’t broken, so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. House of the Dragon has its own tone that will evolve and emerge over the course of the show. But first, it’s very important to pay respects and homage to the original series, which was pretty groundbreaking.”

We’re standing on the shoulders of that show and we’re only here because of that show. So the most important thing for us to do is to respect that show as much as possible and try and complement it rather than reinvent it. And I was involved in making the original show, so I feel like that’s been useful. Like, I’m not arriving going, ‘Let’s change everything! Let’s do a different color palette!’ No, I quite like the color palette.”

That said, we can’t say, ‘Well, when we did Thrones, we did it this way …’” he added. “If you start every sentence with that, you’ve lost. This is something else, and should be something else. It’s a different crew, different people, different tone. Hopefully, it will be seen as something else. But it will have to earn that — it won’t happen overnight.”

“Hopefully, fans will enjoy it for the thing that it is. We’ll be lucky if we ever come close to what the original show was, so we’re just putting our heads down and getting on with it and hoping what we come up with is worthy of having a Game of Thrones title.”

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau hopes Game of Thrones’ success won’t get in the way of House of The Dragon

The teaser trailer for Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon broke the internet as soon as it was launched, and fans can’t get enough of it. The prequel series has caught a lot of attention recently, owing to the frequent leaks and of course the amazing teaser. Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau recently expressed his thoughts about the upcoming spinoff show.

Coster-Waldau told The Hollywood Reporter, “I saw the teaser trailer that they came out with and I was intrigued. I thought it was fun to see Matt Smith in that world, in that beautiful white wig. And listen, I’m curious as everyone [to see it].

But it is a very different show. It’s its own show. I just hope it’s great. I hope the success of Game of Thrones won’t get in the way for people when they experience this new show. For us, it took a while for people to get into Game of Thrones. I remember the first season people were saying: “There are too many characters, I don’t know what’s going on!” I don’t think they have the luxury we had. They have to start with where we were in like season four or five, because that’s what they will be compared to. But I really hope that it’s a massive hit for them.”

Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell explain how scoring for Video Games is different from shows like Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones had some of the best musical scores in television history, thanks to the dedication and hard work of talented artists who made it so enjoyable. Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell, who have composed tunes for shows like Game of Thrones in the past, have moved on to newer projects, and you can listen to their mind-soothing work in The New World video game.

In a recent interview with the Spin, the duo talked about the difference between scoring for a TV show and a video game.

Ramin Djawadi:The big challenge was that in the very beginning, we had no visuals. We had some artwork and some stills, but we had to come up with the sound while the game was being developed. It wasn’t like a movie or television show where you actually have some visuals to write against, so it was definitely a challenge to just start completely from scratch. But talking to the great audio team really helped us immensely with inspiration — just by them describing to us what they needed emotionally from the different areas.”

Brandon Campbell: “I loved the concept art. I think it’s amazing just seeing some of the drawings and renderings the artists had done. But getting this thing off the ground without visuals was [the biggest challenge]. The biggest difference was also that there was just no point when we ended up with a complete video.”

“We might have a developer doing a walkthrough of certain parts of the game or certain areas, but it’s more for inspiration than something to actually score. You’re like, “I’m going to write a three-minute lighthearted adventure piece that takes place in this zone!” or “I’m going to write a scary tension piece that takes place at night in the forest!” but you don’t have to worry about finding the cuts or sync points in the actual video.”
