Game Of Thrones showrunners reveal that the show’s ending has been hidden in a Spotify playlist!

Two-Hour Game of Thrones Documentary To Come After Season 8 Finale

It’s now a matter of hours before Game of Thrones Season 8 officially drops. Excitement is running high, and so are theories about how it all ends.

Well, worry not. The GoT showrunners are here to help. D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have helped create a new Spotify playlist to accompany the final season, and they claim the clue to the ending is hidden in it. The playlist is called Game of Thrones: The End is Coming, and was developed in collaboration with Spotify’s Head of Rock, Allison Hagendorf.

Spotify’s news site For the Record reports that the makers initially just wanted to share the kinds of music that have inspired them while writing and structuring the show, but in the process, the song choices started mirroring the conclusion. They told For the Record over email:

“The answer to the ending is one hundred per cent hidden in the playlist choices. No one will believe us, but it’s true.”

The playlist contains classic rock and metal bands such as Rage Against The Machine (Sleep now in the Fire), Danzig (Her Black Wings, Killer Wolf), Papa Roach, Led Zeppelin (Immigrant Song), The Doors (This is the End).

Contemporary artists and bands like Kanye West (Power), Missio (Bottom of the Deep Blue Sea), and Perfume Genius (Queen) also find a place. Adding variety to the mix are Johny Cash & Bob Dylan (Girl from the North Country) and Van Morrison (Listen to the Lion).

Benioff and Weiss say while the genres vary, all of the songs have an underlying connection in their depth and power. In their words,

“We were looking for songs that made us feel the way the show made us feel. There’s variety in there—[Rage Against the Machine] is not Johnny Cash. But they both have a deep inherent power.”

This is not the first Spotify playlist the showrunners have compiled. In 2017 they helped create Game of Thrones: Songs of Ice and Fire to accompany Season 7. Several songs from that playlist have been repeated in this one.

This Spotify Playlist by Game of Thrones Makers Hides Clues About the Ending!

Music has always been a big part of the Game of Thrones world, with the freshly-dropped Season 8 soundtrack For the Thrones notching it up and an all-time high. With the new Spotify playlist, they have just upped the fun quotient as well. Whether fans will be able to recognize the clues is a matter of conjecture. But this will no doubt send us all scrambling over the playlist for them.

Happy clue-hunting, fandom!

We have just launched a Game of Thrones Death Pool so that fans of the show have an interesting activity to participate in during the season. You can vote every week before the episode airs and predict whether a character lives or dies. Get the maximum number of correct predictions by the end of Season 8 to win the Death Pool.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere was pirated 55 million times in 24 hours!

Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere gets pirated 55 million times

Game of Thrones has been the most popular TV series in the world for a long time. This accomplishment also brings it another title. The title of the most pirated TV series in the world. Game of Thrones Season 8 recently premiered after a wait of nearly 600 days, and needless to say, a lot of people watched it. The figures on piracy are now out, and apparently, the episode was pirated over 55 million times in the span of one day! Read on!

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau says Jaime Lannister's mission changed after seeing Bran Stark in Winterfell

We had recently reported about the official viewership figures that came from HBO, which came up to 17.4 million, including live TV, and HBO’s streaming services. We now have global insight into the viewership figures, thanks to analytics firm MUSO. The piracy numbers highlight a gap in HBO’s availability.

MUSO determined about 55 million instances of piracy in the first 24 hours of the episode airing. 76.6 percent of these came from various illegal streams online. 12.2 percent came from downloads, 10.8 percent came from public torrents and 0.5 percent from private torrents.

Apparently, 10 million of these views came from India, and 5 million came from China. It’s curious to see high numbers from India as this year fans can watch Game Of Thrones online on Hotstar at the same time it airs in the USA and that too by paying $2.9/month which is way cheaper than $14.99/month that’s charged by HBO Now in the USA. Almost 4 million also came from the US itself, which is enough indicator to show that piracy isn’t going anywhere. Not even if there are legal means available, but HBO could begin by making their services available in more countries.

Just to put things in perspective, the most viewed episode on TV was the finale of M.A.S.H. It garnered over 120 million views, back in 1983. These figures could be at least matched by Game of Thrones finale, but the fact that there’s so much piracy means that we will probably never see it officially happen.

Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 Review: “Winterfell”

Game of Thrones is without a doubt the most popular TV series in the world right now, and has been, for a while. The final season of the show premiered recently, with the first episode receiving a positive welcome from the fans. Now, HBO has revealed the viewership numbers of the episode, and it beats all records that have been set by the show. Read on!

Jon Snow knows nothing, except something about his parentage

HBO reported a record viewership for the show, at 17.4 million viewers. This surpassed the 16.1 million viewers for the Season 7 premiere, and 16.9 million viewers for the Season 7 finale. These numbers are not unusually high for Game of Thrones, which usually sees every next episode get more viewers than the previous one.

The show returned after almost 600 days, and its return marked “the largest night of streaming activity ever for HBO,” according to HBO itself. The total figure of 17.4 million includes the live TV channel, HBO Go and HBO Now viewership. The live TV viewer count tallied up to 11.8 million, with half the rest of the viewers coming in through HBO Now, reports The Wrap.

To get a perspective, here are the US viewership figures for all the past seasons, including HBO Go and HBO Now viewership up till 30 days after each season finale:

Season 1: 9.3 million
Season 2: 11.6 million
Season 3: 14.4 million
Season 4: 19.1 million
Season 5: 20.2 million
Season 6: 25.7 million
Season 7: 32.8 million

Well, as the anticipation amps up for the final season, viewership figures are only expected to rise. Not to forget that streaming has also become more common in other nations, like India, where fans of the show can watch Game Of Thrones online on Hotstar at the same time it airs in USA. This means more live viewers. The next episode airs on 21st April, and from what we can tell from the preview, the pace picks up.

What do you think? Excited for this season? How are you watching the show, this time around? Talk to us in the comments, down below!

DirecTV accidentally aired Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere 4 hours early

DirecTV aired Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere 4 hours early

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular, most pirated, and most leaked show on the internet. You might remember, back when Season 7 was airing, there was a record high number of leaks. HBO has taken extreme measures this time around to make sure none of Season 8 leaks out. However, with the Season 8 premiere, there was a bit of a goof up. DirecTV aired the Seaosn 8 premiere nearly 4 hours earlier than the schedule. Read on!

Twitter and other social media went abuzz with reports of the episode being available to stream on DirecTV hours before the scheduled premiere. People received notifications about the episode being available to stream at 5 p.m., a full four hours before the premiere.

The interesting part? DirecTV is an AT&T-owned service, which also owns HBO through the recent acquisition. This means the leak occurred, sort of, from within. An AT&T representative commented:

“Apparently our system was as excited as we are for Game of Thrones tonight and gave a few DirecTV Now customers early access to the episode by mistake. When we became aware of the error, we immediately fixed it and we look forward to tuning in this evening.”

Well, it wasn’t too much of a big deal since it was just a few hours before, and to a few people. Still, looks like DirecTV will have to be extra careful henceforth.
