After contributing to ‘Long Night’ prequel George R.R. Martin has a new spin-off idea

Whether it’s the Game of Thrones TV series or the upcoming prequel series – George R.R. Martin is the one who rules all. Whether you credit his creative mind or the fantastic character building ability, it’s all because of him that we never get over with Game of Thrones. Moreover, it is because of him Game of Thrones is a big success and on the peak amongst the popular on-demand TV series of 2018.

Well, George’s new work ‘Fire and Blood’ was released in November and he has also dropped many clues for the end-game of Game of Thrones TV series in the same. He also confirmed that he is on his way to finishing the much awaited and anticipated next instalment to ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ – ‘The Winds of Winterin a secret hideaway.

After contributing to ‘Long Night’ prequel George R.R. Martin has a new spin-off ideaAfter the main TV series of ‘Game of Thrones’, fans await the spinoff show based on the legend of the Long Night whose casting has already begun and the pilot episode is planned to be filmed in February. George recently answered a few related questions on the New York Times, and also shared a new spin-off series idea. About the progress of the prequel, he said,

“That’s the show I’m calling ‘The Long Night.’ HBO said, ‘Don’t call it ‘The Long Night,’ so that’s not the official title. But I still think of it as “The Long Night.” That’s the one Jane Goldman wrote, and they’re gearing up for preproduction. Naomi Watts has been cast, so that’s very exciting.”

When asked if his concept for the prequel varied from Jane Goldman, George replied:

“Well, she had to add something. If you look at the published books so far, there’s really very little material about that — a sentence here, a sentence there. Old Nan tells a tale that takes up a paragraph. So Jane had to create the characters, the settings and some of the events, and we had to look at everything that was said and say, “O.K., here’s what was said at this point, we need to make it consistent to that.”

We kicked around some ideas and I made some suggestions. But mostly it’s been Jane running with it. It’s set thousands of years before “Game of Thrones.” King’s Landing does not exist. The Iron Throne does not exist. There are no dragons there.”

After contributing to ‘Long Night’ prequel George R.R. Martin has a new spin-off ideaTalking about the possibility of Ice Spiders in the prequel – the ones we’ve heard in the stories of Old Nan – George laughed and said,

“There might be! I will say nothing about that. Maybe the ice spiders were just a legend! Have you read the new book.”

This really gives us chills for the same in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones – if the showrunners really wish to do that in their budget! Finally sharing his idea for a new spinoff, George said:

“I wanted to do a show called “Spear Carriers,” which would actually be set during the events of “Game of Thrones,” but it wouldn’t be following Dany, Tyrion and Jaime. They would all be there in the background like Hamlet, and it would be more like, “Here’s a story about a guy in the City Watch; here’s a story about a prostitute at one of Littlefinger’s brothels; here’s a story about a mummer who’s in town to do juggling and tricks.” And they all get caught up in the events. I think that kind of show would be a lot of fun to do. Maybe I’ll be able to convince them to do it!”

See Tormund and Gendry enjoy a game on Nintendo Switch in Game of Thrones behind the scenes photo

Game of Thrones had the ultimate face-off in Season 8 when the Army of the Dead faced the living folks in Winterfell. The Battle of Winterfell saw a lot of people uniting to take down the Night King, and among them were Tormund Giantsbane, and Gendry (now Baratheon). A new behind the scenes photo from the sets shows the two enjoying a nice game on a Nintendo Switch. Read on!

The picture, posted on the Game of Thrones subreddit, shows Joe Dempsie, who played Gendry, and Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, still in their costume and the bloody makeup, just sitting down to play. Take a look:

[NO SPOILERS] Gendry and Tormund playing games in Winterfell after The Battle of Winterfell from gameofthrones

As we all know, the Battle of Winterfell sequences took a gruesome 55 nights to film, and have been described by the stars as some of the roughest times they have had filming for the show. So it’s no surprise that they would have at least some way to relax on the sets in between takes or appearances.

Nintendo consoles are also famous for being the best for the local multiplayer experience, so that’s probably why these two seem so engrossed in the game. If only we knew which game they were playing!
