Red Wedding actor talks about his surprise return to Game of Thrones

details you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 3 : Book of the Stranger

The latest Game of Thrones episode, Blood of my Blood saw the return of two characters whom we haven’t seen in years. The last time we saw Edmure Tully and Walder Frey, the Red Wedding happened. In that shocking episode, Edmure was taken away and locked in the cell, while rest of the people were slaughtered, which included Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Talisa Stark and her unborn baby and many more Stark and Tully bannermen. Luckily, the Blackfish managed to escape and we are going to meet him in the next episode, The Broken Man.

Red Wedding actor talks about his surprise return to the show

EW talked with Tobias Menzies, who plays the character of Edmure Tully in the show. It’s been almost 3 years since he was last seen in the show and even he admitted that he had no idea that his character Edmure would return to the show. “Yeah, of course. There had been a couple of seasons and so I didn’t really have a huge expectation that I would come back. It was very, a nice surprise,” said Menzies while speaking with EW.

He felt that even the showrunners weren’t sure about bringing his character back to the show and they just found the way to his character while choosing which parts of the book they wanted to include in the show. He also made it clear that he never received any information about the return of his characters from the producers till the last moment.

No, and I’m not sure they knew themselves. I think they’ve sort of found their way and chose what bits of the book they are doing. They just got in contact a little bit before we shot to see whether I was available, whether they could fit me in. It was a question of fitting in amongst my other commitments. But I’m a big fan of the show and was keen to make it work if I could.

Menzies is currently starring in The Night Manager and Outlander and he had to juggle the dates to make sure that he managed to make time for appearing on Game of Thrones. He admitted that he is a big fan of Game of Thrones and he was keen to make time for the show.

Menzies talked about his character in the show and said that Edmure might have been in the prison for around a year but he was unclear about how much time might have actually passed by. While talking about the future of his character, he teased about what might happen in the coming episodes.

He is still a prisoner of the Freys and then the Freys try and use him as bait to reclaim Riverrun, which is his ancestral home. And then Jamie Lannister gets involved. [Edmure] becomes a pawn in a large political fight. He ends up having to make a very difficult decision over whether to betray his family.

In the next episode, we will visit Riverrun after many seasons and it will be exciting to see what happens when the Blackfish and Jaime Lannister meet.

Lena Headey congratulates shame nun Hannah Waddingham on her first Emmy win

Hannah Waddingham was scared she would start “lactating” while filming ‘Walk of Shame’ on hearing her baby cry

Game of Thrones was like a huge family, consisting of varied personalities coming together to make a great show. No matter how adverse their roles were on-screen, they were quite friendly in real life. Take for example, the case of Cersei’s torturer Septa Unella. The two characters couldn’t see eye to eye in the fantasy series. However, in real life, Hannah Waddingham (Unella) and Lena Headey are close friends. Headey recently congratulated her friend on Instagram when she won her first Emmy Award.

Hannah Waddingham was named outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series during the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night for her role as Rebecca Welton on the beloved Apple+ series Ted Lasso. Headey posted a heartwarming congratulatory message to Waddingham on her Instagram, complete with a picture of Waddingham looking stunning in an asymmetrical peach-colored gown:

Though Lena never won an Emmy for her performance in Game of Thrones, no matter how deserving it was, we can understand her excitement when she found out her best friend had recently won her first Emmy. We just wish Lena had won her share as well, because she was exceptional on Game of Thrones as Cersei Lannister.

Let’s join Lena Headey in congratulating Hannah Waddingham on her Emmy win. Leave your well wishes in the comments below!

George R. R. Martin shares a poem with fans on his 73rd birthday

George R. R. Martin is one of the most famous fantasy writers of present times. If not for him, we wouldn’t be having the amazing world of Game of Thrones, HBO’s fantasy epic based on his A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Though much of his fanbase has grown weary of him, for making them wait for the next book in the series ‘Winds of Winter’, he is still a coveted literary figure, and no one can deny his importance in the entertainment industry.

Martin turned 73 on Monday, September 20, 2021, and birthday wishes have been pouring in for the veteran writer. He shared a nice poem about getting old on his blog Not a Blog:

George R. R. Martin shares a poem with fans on his 73rd birthday

I grow old… I grow old…

I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?

I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me.

((with thanks to T.S. Eliot))”

It is true that Martin is getting old, and many fans are worried if he’ll ever get to finish his novels. However, it is also true that he has been promising fans he will deliver the much-awaited books, while he is still working on other projects. We can only hope he is true to his word. What do you think about it? Talk to us in the comments below!
