The latest Game of Thrones episode gave the fans what they had been waiting for since a really long time and the fans just freaked out. However, the meeting between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen wasn’t as friendly as many people were expecting it to be. Daenerys wanted Jon Snow to bend the knee and Jon was adamant that he wouldn’t and Daenerys even suggested that in her opinion, Jon was the enemy in the North. However, things cooled down a bit later on and Daenerys allowed Jon to mine the Dragonglass. Daenerys also came to know that her allies were attacked and defeated and we later saw that Cersei and Jaime outsmarted Tyrion and defetead their last ally. So things didn’t go well for Dany in the latest episode.

Elsewhere, Euron received a hero’s reception in King’s Landing and he presented the gift to Cersei, and she made sure that Ellaria and Tyene Sand suffered. Melisandre said goodbye without meeting Jon and Davos, we got to see a Stark reunion,  Jorah got cured and Lady Olenna had the most badass death in the show till date. In addition to this, there were many details in the latest episode which you might’ve missed. So without any further delay, let’s take a look at the details from the latest episode, The Queen’s Justice that you might’ve missed. You can also check the details that you might have missed in episode one and two.

1. Davos talks about change

Ser Davos tries to strike a conversation with Missandei and she just walks away and at that moment Jon Snow joins him and Davos tells Jon, “This place has changed.

This is a reference to the change in the filming location for Dragonstone. We have seen Dragonstone in the past when it was under Stannis‘ control but during this season, the show changed the location and the shooting was done in Spain. Ser Davos’ line is a sneaky reference to the change in the shooting location for Dragonstone.

2. A Dragon flies past Jon Snow

After landing at Dragonstone, Jon and friends start the long walk to reach the castle and Jon and Tyrion talk about Stark men not doing well when they travel South and that’s when Jon replies, “but I am not a Stark,” and at that very moment a dragon flies past Jon, who is a half Targaryen. This seems to be a reference to Jon Snow being a Targaryen and maybe he might ride one of the Dragons in the future.

3. Melisandre is returning to Volantis

Melisandre informs Lord Varys that she’s going to visit Volantis and when Varys suggests that she should stay there for the rest of her life, she says, “I have to die in this strange country — just like you.

Melisandre’s decision to visit Volantis might be very significant as Volantis houses the Temple of the Lord of the Light and it’s supposed to be three times bigger than the Sept of Baelor. We met the Red Priestess Kinvara in the last season and she’s the High Priestess of Volantis. There’s a high chance that Melisandre will meet Kinvara later in this season or in the next season and we might get to see the Temple of the Lord of the Light. Also, Kinvara might join Melisandre when she returns to Westeros.

4. Don’t judge a daughter by the sins of her father

Daenerys asks Jon Snow to bend the knee and he refuses to do so and Daenerys says that he has traveled all the way to Dragonstone to break faith with House Targaryen. That’s when Jon reminds her that her father had murdered his uncle and grandfather. Daenerys then responds by asking forgiveness for the crimes the Mad King committed against his family and requests him to not judge a daughter by the sins of her father.

This reminds us about what Jon said in the first episode of this season, when Sansa suggests that he gives the Last Hearth and Karhold to the families of the men who were loyal to him. Jon refuses to do that while saying, “I will not punish a son for his father’s sins.”

5. Bend the knee

After Jon meets Daenerys, they have a big disagreement over Jon bending the knee and giving up the title of the King in the North and becoming Daenerys’ ally. Jon tells Daenerys that he won’t bend the knee and lets her know that the lords of the North have placed their trust in him to lead them and he will continue to do so. We have had a similar scene in the 5th season, but that time it was Jon Snow who was asking Mance Rayder to bend the knee. In the 5th season, Stannis asks Mance to bend the knee pledge fealty to him or else he will kill Mance.

Jon visits Mance and tries to convince him to bend the knee. Mance refuses to do so and tells Jon, “They followed me because they respected me, because they believed in me.” Take a look at the video below:

6. Parallel between Euron and Tywin

Euron triumphantly returns to King’s Landing with Yara Greyjoy, Ellaria and Tyene Sand and he receives a hero’s welcome and he enters the Gret Hall in the Red Keep on his horse with his gifts for Cersei. The last time we saw someone doing something similar was in season 2 finale, when Tywin Lannister entered the Great Hall on his horse after helping defeat Stannis in the Battle of Blackwater Bay. Joffrey also made him the Hand of the King during this scene.

7. The Ellaria and Tyene Sand scene was a callback to the murder of Jon’s grandfather and uncle

After Euron presents Ellaria and Tyene to Ceresi as a gift, she makes sure that they feel the same pain and suffering that she experienced after the death of Myrcella. Both of them are chained and Cersei talks about her plans for murdering them. She says that she wants to give them a slow and agonizing death and then she kisses Tyene Sand and at that moment we realize that she is doing what Ellaria did when she poisoned her daughter. Once Cersei leaves the Ellaria and Tyene try to come closer to each other but they can’t as they are chained to the prison walls.

This reminds us of how the Mad King murdered Rickard and Brandon Stark. For  those who don’t know, Aerys had put Rickard Stark in a suit of armour and then suspended him from the ceiling and lit a fire beneath him and at the same time, he hada noose tied around Brandon Stark’s neck and a sword was kept just out of his reach. Rickard was burned alive in the suit of armour and Brandon strangled himself to death while trying to reach the sword to save his father’s life.

Ellaria and Tyene’s final scene reminded us about what the Mad King did and it now appears that Cersei is becoming just like the Mad King and we know who killed the Mad King. So this gives some credibility to the theory that Jaime will be the one who kills Cersei.

8. Walking Dead reference

The latest Game Of Thrones episode also has a reference to the popular series, The Walking Dead. Jon Snow tells Tyrion that the dead are coming and that’s when Tyrion says, “Why don’t you figure out what to do about my missing fleet and murdered allies, and I’ll figure out what to do about your walking dead men.

9. Grumkins and Snarks

During the conversation between Jon Snow and Tyrion, Jon talks about Grumkins and Snarks while saying that he knows Tyion doesn’t believe in what he is saying and he didn’t before.

During the second episode of the first season, while Jon and Tyrion are travelling to the Wall, they talk about Jon’s decision to join the Night’s Watch and when Jon starts saying that the Night’s Watch protects the realm from, Tyrion interjects and mockingly says, “Yes, yes. Against grumpkins and snarks and all the monsters your wet nurse warned you about. You are a smart boy, you don’t believe all that nonsense.” Take a look at the scene below.

10. A wise man once said…

While Tyrion tries to convince Daenerys to let Jon Snow mine the Dragonglass, he says, “A wise man once said that you should never believe a thing just because you want to believe it.” Daenerys immediately asks him if he is trying to present his own statmenets as ancient wisdom, to which he replies, “I would never do that … to you.”

This is a reference to the scene involving Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm from the 5th season. Tyrion tells them, “A wise man once said a true history of the world is a history of great conversations in elegant rooms.”

When Missandei asks who has said it, Tyrion  replies, “Me. Just now.

11. Connection between Jon and Rhaegar

We now know that Jon Snow is Rhaegar Targaryen’s son and during the latest episode, while speaking with Jon, Daenerys says, “We all enjoy what we are good at,” and Jon replies, “I don’t.” Jon was definitely referring to his fighting skills in the scene and reddit user King_Will_Wedge pointed out that we have heard something similar way back in season 5, when Barristan Selmy talks with Daenerys about Rhaegar Targaryen and his love for singing.

He liked to walk among the people, he liked to sing to them,” says Barristan Selmy. Daenerys is a bit surprised and she tells Selmy that Viserys has only talked about how good Rhaegar was at killing people.

Rhaegar never liked killing,” Barristan replies. “He loved singing.

The show is trying to add many references to Jon being a Targaryen before he finds out the truth.

12. Ten good men

When Tyrion explains his strategy for capturing Casterly Rock, he mentions that it’s an impregnable fortress but he also adds that a friend of his once said, “Give me 10 good men and I’ll impregnate the bitch.”

Tyrion is referring to Bronn in this scene. In the first season, while Tyrion was being taken to the Eyrie by Catelyn Stark, he mentioned that the Eyrie was impregnable and Bronn replied, “Give me 10 good men and some climbing spikes. I’ll impregnate that bitch.”

13. Rains of Castamere reference

The Rains of Castamere is the song which talks about the destruction of House Reyne by Tywin Lannister. The song was played during the Red Wedding too and in the latest episode, the song starts playing when we see the Lannisters and the Tarlys marching towards Highgarden, which marks the end of House Tyrell. When Jaime comes to meet Lady Olenna, after capturing the castle, she says a line from song, “And now the rains weep o’er our halls.” This is significant as she knows that the Lannisters have successfully managed to eliminate her house, just like they eliminated the Reynes. For those who don’t know the lyrics, check them below:

And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that’s all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o’er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o’er his hall, and not a soul to hear.

After a gripping third episode with a fitting end, hopes from episode 4 were high. The fourth episode of the Season 8 of Game of Thrones titled The Last of the Starks was an okay-ish episode with a balance of some good and bad moments. It did not have the potential to blow your mind, but it did take the story further towards the end, which was its primary purpose, I suppose.

So, without further ado, let’s move on the best and the worst moments from the fourth episode of Season 8.

The Best Moments from Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4

All the Heroes, one last time

hbo-releases-photos-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-4-1182743

Many died in the battle with the Night King, though most characters survived. But, in the fourth episode, we got to see all the fallen heroes one last time before they were given to the fire. Ser Jorah, Lyanna Mormont, Theon, Edd, and Daenerys’s Dothraki blood riders. A final goodbye moment.

The Drinking Game

hbo-releases-photos-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-the-last-of-the-starks-11-7598775

Jaime, Tyrion, Brienne, and Podrick are playing the Westerosi version of the ‘Never have I ever’ drinking game. It’s all laughter and drinking until Tyrion suggests that Brienne is a virgin. Awkward silence. Jaime tries to diffuse the tension by saying something silly, but Tyrion is not one to budge. Podrick quickly gulps his drink. And Brienne gets up to leave. Tormund accosts her, but she manages to make her way out of the Great Hall. Only to be followed by Jaime. Nudge nudge, wink wink. Tormund looks crestfallen at first but quickly recovers as he grabs a serving girl. Not true love, after all, eh Tormund?

Little Bird meets the Hound

hbo-releases-photos-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-the-last-of-the-starks-15-5151473

The fourth episode also saw a much-awaited reunion, this time of Sansa and Sandor Clegane. Years ago, when the Hound left King’s Landing for good, he had offered to take Sansa with him and keep her safe. But Sansa, a naive young girl at the time, had refused. She went through a lot all these years, what with having to deal with the likes of Littlefinger and Ramsey Bolton. And now, they met again in the Great Hall for the post-battle feast. Over the years Sansa has completely changed. As Sandor tells her that he would have kept her safe from Ramsey, she tells him she gave Ramsey what he deserved. “Hounds”, she replies when he asks her what she did to him. The moment fabulously captured the essence of Sansa’s character arc.

Arya is on the move again

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-1517031

As Gendry Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End asked Arya to be his wife, everybody knew in the hearts of their hearts that Arya would refuse. (Although it would have been fun to see a Lady wearing the pants in the castle!) But Arya has more important things to do than living in a castle and hosting dinners. She is on her way to King’s Landing to complete her list. But, maybe she won’t have the pleasure of killing The Moutain herself since The Hound is also on a mission to kill his brother first. The moment when they both ride together away from Winterfell was reminiscent of the times when they had their road trip with Sansa as Arya’s captor/protector.

Daenerys asking Jon to keep a secret

hbo-releases-photos-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-the-last-of-the-starks-12-1203269

Ok, this was big, totally unexpected, and probably indicative of a big conflict in the next episode. Daenerys seems to have accepted that Jon is her nephew. She has come to terms with this little inconvenient detail and now just wants to pressurise Jon into keeping his mouth shut and asking Bran and Sam to do the same. But it came to nothing because Jon just went and tattled to Arya and Sansa. And Sansa told Tyrion. And Tyrion told Varys. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if the news has already reached Essos by the time the next episode airs. But, the moment between Jon and Daenerys spoke volumes and it was a window into what’s coming – madness for Dany, and maybe the Iron Throne for Jon?

The Worst Moments from Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4

RIP Rhaegal

daenerys-targaryen-faces-a-major-loss-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4_-1-3360065

Two down, one to go. Rhaegal dies in episode 4 and it’s sad. He is shot down by Euron. But it’s not sad because he dies. It’s sad because the way he died was so sudden and rushed! He is flying alongside Drogon with Daenerys on the back. But somehow, nobody, not even Daenerys see the Greyjoy fleet down below with the Scorpion aimed at them. And literally out of the blue, an arrow hits Rhaegal. More arrows follow, blood gushes out, there is a little amount of screeching and Rhaegal sinks. Well, at least this time a dragon is not coming back with blue eyes.

Ghost being ghosted by Jon

hbo-releases-photos-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-the-last-of-the-starks-8-9837902

Poor, poor Ghost. He is the last of the pack of direwolves left (There’s Nymeria, yes. But the chances of her coming back are as much as Bran running again), but nobody bothers. We all saw him grow from a little cub into a fierce direwolf and he was so close to Jon! But now Jon, or rather Aegon, seems to have abandoned his pet completely. It’s been 4 episodes and we haven’t seen Jon as much as petting Ghost. But now, Jon had to leave Ghost behind at Winterfell in the fourth episode as he is marching south to King’s Landing. And all Ghost gets is a cursory nod! Well, what can I say? First Rhaegal, and now Ghost. This was a bad episode for the pets.

Bronn meets Tyrion and Jaime

bronn-made-a-new-deal-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-8785809

Bronn is in the North armed with the crossbow Cersei gave him to finish off her brothers. So Bronn just walks in with the crossbow and injures Tyrion and then cooly announces that he is here on Cersei’s orders to kill both the Lannister brothers. Then he has the audacity to ask for a big Lordship – he wants Highgarden. Then, just as he came in, he walks out. And we are left wondering why Tyrion, the Hand of the Queen, did not have him captured instead. What a silly waste of crucial screen time!

All in all, the fourth episode was commonplace. In all probability, the next episode of the series will pack more punch! Until next time, let’s talk about more important things, such as a Starbucks cup that was spotted in the Great Hall at Winterfell! It’s crazy, but it’s true!

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-9-5673236

The latest Game Of Thrones episode, “The Last of the Starks” presented us with some shocking moments. With the Battle of Winterfell getting over, many people thought that the 4th episode would be a filler episode and would just help in building up the story for the big battle that we are going to witness in the fifth episode. However, Game Of Thrones surprised us with two deaths and a lot of important scenes.

As usual, the episode was filled with hidden details and callbacks to the previous seasons. So let’s take a look at the details you might have missed in Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4: The Last of the Starks.

1. Changes in the opening credits

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-1-7458770

So far in season 8, we have seen slight variations in the opening credits based on the events that are occurring in the episode. We saw the march of the White Walkers during the initial episodes but now that they are dead, we got to see some new additions. If you look carefully, you will see funeral pyres around Winterfell and we can also see the damage that was caused to Winterfell.

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-3-8067387

We got to see a slightly different view of Winterfell that has been damaged after the battle.

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-2-8963623

Even the interiors show us the damage that occurred during the Battle of Winterfell.

2. Jon Snow’s speech at the funeral

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-3180444

At the funeral, Jon Snow gave a speech that was similar to the one given by Maester Aemon after the battle between the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings in season 4.

“We’re here to say goodbye to our brothers and sisters. To our fathers and mothers. To our friends. Our fellow men and women who set aside their differences to fight together and die together so that others might live. “

“Everyone in this world owes them a debt that can never be repaid. It is our duty and our honour to keep them alive in memory for those who come after us and those who come after them for as long as men draw breath. They were the shields that guarded the realms of men and we shall never see their like again.”

Maester Aemon had spoken on similar lines in the season 4 finale.

“They came to us from White Harbour and Barrowtown, from Fairmarket and King’s Landing. From North and South, from East and West. They died protecting men, women and children who will never know their names. It is for us to remember them. Our brothers, we shall never see their like again. “

3. Bran mentions Daeron Targaryen

While speaking with Tyrion Lannister, Bran mentioned Daeron Targaryen when Tyrion pointed towards Bran’s wheelchair and said that it was clever.

Daeron Taragryen is Jon Snow’s ancestor and in the books, Jon Snow spoke about Daeron while talking with Benjen Stark. Daeron inspired Jon to join the Night’s Watch as Daeron had become the king at the age of 14 and had managed to conquer Dorne.

However, he was reminded by uncle Benjen that Daeron was also assassinated at the age of 18. This can be considered as a foreshowing in the books as Jon was also assassinated by the brothers of the Night’s Watch.

4. Tyrion’s drinking games

We saw Tyrion, Jaime and Brienne playing a drinking game in the episode and this isn’t the first time we are seeing Tyrion playing this game. We were first introduced to Tyrion’s drinking game in the penultimate episode of season 1, when he was playing it with Shae and Bronn.

However, that wasn’t the only time he has played a drinking game. We saw him playing another drinking game in season 6 with Missandei and Grey Worm which involved telling jokes.

5. Game Of Thrones showrunners make a cameo

game-of-thrones-showrunners-david-and-dan-had-a-cameo-in-22the-last-of-the-starks22-5130562

The Game Of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss had a cameo in the episode, dressed as Wildlings. The scene involved Tormund praising Jon Snow, while mentioning that he must be a mad man or a King to ride a dragon. In the same scene, we see the showrunners dressed as Wildlings, who are standing next to Tormund.

6. Coffee cup on the table

there-was-a-starbucks-cup-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-the-last-of-the-starks-2-3939450

The latest Game Of Thrones episode featured an unusual mistake as we got to see a Starbucks coffee cup that was placed on the table, in front of Daenerys Targaryen. The coffee cup appeared only during one scene but it was enough for fans to create memes about it. Within hours everyone was talking about Starbucks opening a branch in Winterfell.

7. Pod the player

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-4-8939686

We know that Podrick is a legend when it comes to seduction and the ladies love him. In the episode we saw a few girls approaching Podrick, Tormund and the Hound to hook-up but the Hound managed to scare away the girl. That’s when Sansa came to speak with him. While they were speaking, we saw that Podrick who was already with a girl, approached the second girl and whispered something in her ear and off they went to have an adventure.

8. Gendry Rivers

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-5-2944241

It appears that the Game Of Thrones crew was having a rough day while filming this episode as there was another big mistake in the episode. The scene I am talking about involves Gendry and Arya.

Gendry was searching for Arya and when he found her, he shared that he was legitimized by Daenerys and now he is Gendry Baratheon and not Gendry Rivers and that’s a big mistake that got overlooked before the episode was aired. Rivers is a name given to bastards who are born in the Riverlands. Gendry was born in King’s Landing and his name should be Gendry Waters.

9. That’s not me

Gendry told Arya that he was made the Lord of Storm’s End, and he also proposed and asked her to marry him and become the Lady of Storm’s End. Knowing how Arya is, we knew that this wasn’t going to end on a happy note for Gendry and Arya told him, “I am not a lady. I never have been. That’s not me.”

This is a callback to Arya’s interaction with Ned Stark in season 1. While speaking with Arya, Ned said, “You will marry a high lord and rule his castle and your sons shall be knights and princes and lords.”

On hearing this, Arya replied, “No, that’s not me.”

We again came across this reference in season 6 when Arya met Nymeria and she asked Nymeria to come with her to Winterfell.

“Nymeria, it’s me, Arya. I am heading North, girl. Back to Winterfell, I am finally going home. Come with me.”

However, Nymeria turned away and left and that’s when Arya realised that Nymeria was just like her and she wanted to live freely on her own terms and Arya said, “That’s not you.”

10. Like father like son

We know that Robert Baratheon was supposed to marry Lyanna Stark but Lyanna loved Rhaegar Targaryen and she eloped with him. An angry Robert claimed that Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna and that one incident resulted in a war that ended the Targaryen rule in Westeros. “Robert’s rebellion was built on a lie

And now the moment Gendry became a Baratheon, he was immediately rejected by another Stark. We hope that this doesn’t create any further issues in Westeros.

11. Power resides where men believe it resides

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-6-7999729

Bronn finally made an appearance in the latest episode and he seemed in no mood to have a proper discussion with Tyrion and Jaime. He complained that he had worked a lot for the Lannisters but he hardly got anything in return.

“Power resides where men believe–, “ said Tyrion before Bronn cut him off.

We had last heard this line in season 2, when Lord Varys had said the same thing to Tyrion. Varys had posed a riddle for Tyrion.

“Three great men sit in a room. A king, a priest and a rich man. Between them stands a common sellsword. Each great man bids the sellsword to kill the other two. Who lives, who dies?”

When Tyrion gave up, Varys answered, “Power resides where men believe it resides. It’s a trick, a shadow on the wall. And a very small man can cast a very large shadow.”

In the latest episode, Bronn represents the sellsword from the riddle.

12. He’s not a Stark

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-7-2509792

Tyrion met Sansa before leaving for Dragonstone and suggested that she doesn’t need to be Daenerys’ friend and it’s not in the best interest of the Starks to provoke Daenerys. Sansa replied by saying that she didn’t want Jon to go South as the men in her family don’t do well in King’s Landing.

Tyrion replied by saying, “No, but as your brother once told me, he’s not a Stark.”

This is a reference to the interaction between Jon and Tyrion from season 7, when Jon visited Dragonstone. While speaking, Tyrion mentioned a general rule of thumb, “Stark men don’t fare well when they travel South.”

“True, but I am not a Stark,” responded Jon.

13. This is the North

Before leaving Winterfell, Jon met Tormund to say goodbye and Tormund mentioned that he was taking the Free Folk home as they had enough of the South. That’s when Jon reminded him, “This is the North, you know.”

This is a callback to the 6th episode of season 7, when Jon, Tormund and others had gone beyond the Wall to capture a Wight. Tormund mentioned that, “I can breathe again. Down South, the air smells like pig shit.”

Jon immediately responded by saying, “You have never been down South.” To this Tormund replied, “I have been to Winterfell.”

14. Arya and Hound going to King’s Landing

16-details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-4-8-2948289

Arya joined the Hound and both of them are heading to King’s Landing now. When Arya asked him about it, he replied, “I have some unfinished business.” This can only indicate he’s going there for the Mountain. Cleganebowl is coming!!!

Arya has two people on her list: Cersei and the Mountain. So it’s possible that both of them might team up for this mission. However, both of them said that they don’t plan on coming back, which might indicate that Arya and the Hound might die in the upcoming episodes.

15. Tyrion and Lord Varys talk about Daenerys

Tyrion and Varys sat in the Throne Room in Dragonstone and discussed about Daenerys and how she didn’t seem to be the best choice to rule Westeros. Both of them have doubts about Daenerys and this isn’t the first time this has happened.

In season 7, Tyrion and Varys sat in the same place right after Daenerys had executed Randyll and Dickon Tarly and they had doubts that Daenerys could turn out like her father. However, at that time Varys suggested that with the right counsel they could avoid the situation.

Looks like Varys has lost hope now and now he’s convinced that there’s no way to control Daenerys.

16. Lord Varys and Daenerys made a promise to each other

In the last season Daenerys asked Lord Varys to swear that, “If you think I am failing, you won’t conspire behind my back. You will look me in the eye as you have done today and you’ll tell me how I am failing.” When he agreed, Daenerys responded by saying, “And I swear this. If you ever betray me, I’ll burn you alive.”

In the latest episode, as promised, Varys looked Daenerys in her eyes and told her that she was making a mistake. However, Daenerys refused to listen to him and that’s when he realised that Daenerys would do what she wanted to do and that would result in the loss of lives.

In the next scene, he told Tyrion that Jon should become the King and that’s the only solution. We saw that Varys is conspiring behind Daenerys’ back and this might prove fatal for him and we know if he gets caught, Drogon will be ready to burn him, as promised by Daenerys. So even though this is an assumption that I am making, based on the details that have been mentioned in the latest episode, it’s likely that we might see this happening soon.

So these are the things that you might’ve missed while watching Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4: The Last of the Starks. Please let me know in the comments section if I have missed any details.

First of all, WHAT AN EPISODE!

It is as if we all had been waiting for this our entire lives, and it has finally happened. Right from Episode 1 of Season 1, we had been hearing the words. Winter is coming! Well, it did come in Episode 3 and how! The death, the destruction, and the grit of the fighters. It was all so emotionally draining and overwhelming, I can’t even!

But before I come out of what I just lived for close to 90 minutes, let me relive the best and worst moments of Episode 3, one more time.

Melisandre came back to Westeros, one last time, just as she had promised in Season 7. As she slowly rode down on her horse, cloaked in red, it was clear she knew what her purpose was. And as she touched a Dothraki’s arakh, and said the incantations, the arakh burned fiercely. As all the arakhs in the Dothraki horde burned, it was a moment of silent appreciation for her magic as I watched in awe.

The Two Dragons

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-6-4715670

Two dragons flew in the skies above Winterfell with two riders on their backs. One was dressed in all white with silver hair flowing. The other wore black and had black hair to match. As the dragons danced their dance, breathing fire, it was so beautiful to watch! The background score elevated the scene like nothing else. And it was so pure and unadulterated!

Daenerys saving Jon

As Jon and Dany watch the living prepare for the great battle, the tension between them is palpable. Dany as good as tells Jon that he is a dead man already. But as Jon, the brave fool that he is, runs towards the Night King, Longclaw drawn, the Night King slowly starts raising both his hands.

All the dead around Jon start opening their blue eyes. As the dead get up, the Night King walks away. Though Jon cuts and slashes at the wights with Valyrian steel, we know it’s a lost cause. But then Dany riding Drogon comes along. Drogon breathes fire, wights burn, Jon is saved. And they have a moment when they both look into each other’s eyes. It lasts only a second but speaks volumes. Doubt, uncertainty, questions, and love.

Sansa and Tyrion

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-5-8418400

Sansa and Tyrion had a political marriage. But they did manage to come to trust and respect each other at some point in their awkward marital life. In the third episode, both of them are in the crypts of Winterfell. But it’s not too long before even the crypts filled with wights.

As they stand together sheltered for a moment from all the chaos, they look back at their sham of a marriage. And Sansa admits he was the best of ‘them all’. Well, if Tyrion’s competition was against Ramsey, well, well. But, the moment was an acknowledgement of the respect that Sansa and Tyrion share and a little bit of friendship too in the face of impending doom.

Arya using her weapon

details-you-might-have-missed-in-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-3-4168146

Right from the first episode of the season, we knew Arya wanted a dragonglass weapon and had the design in mind. In the third episode, we saw her finally use it. And Arya Stark once again proved what a strong woman she is.

No longer a girl now, her swiftness and agility with the staff-like weapon was a treat for the eyes. As she somersaulted and jumped, ducked and dodged, she took down wight after wight. The look in her eyes, the grit on her face, it all exuded so much strength! Way to go Arya!!

Arya, the saviour!

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-4-7312481

Arya indeed was the Hero of Episode 3. She had not one, but two amazing moments in the third episode. And this one happens towards the end. The Night King and his team of White Walkers are in the Godswood. Theon has died trying to save Bran. And Bran is sitting with his deadpan look on his wheelchair under the weirwood tree.

The Night King is this much close to drawing his Ice Sword and driving it into Bran to kill all memory of the world. And then Arya comes out of nowhere, dagger in hand. But the Night King, with his instincts and strength, is quick to turn around and grab her before she can strike. The dagger falls from her hand. It falls, falls, and time almost stops.

Then, with a swift motion, she catches the dagger and plunges it into the Night King. As he disintegrates into a thousand pieces of ice, it’s as if death itself is defeated. And Arya stands there, taller than everybody else. What a moment! Definitely the highlight of the episode.

Lyanna, oh dear Lyanna!

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-3-5098131

Well, this was a sad moment. But done really well! Lyanna Mormont did well. She did very well. As she took charge and shouted commands, she was a picture of strength packed twice over in every inch of her short, petite stature. But when the wights breach the Winterfell walls, chaos ensues and with the regular wights, comes the wight Giant.

Not one to back down, Lyanna stands her ground even as the Giant grabs her and lifts her, his fingers crushing her body. Death is certain. But before that, she sticks the dragonglass into the Giant’s bright blue eye, taking him down with her. You were very brave, Lyanna!

The Worst Moments of Episode 3

Bran letting Theon die

So Bran, the Three-eyed raven, the memory of the world, the guy with the deadpan look, already knew that Arya was going to kill the Night King. Remember how he gives her the Valyrian steel dagger in Season 7 as he tells her that she needed it more than him? So he knew Theon was only going to be a pawn in the larger scheme of things. He could have totally asked Theon to run for his life and live. But instead, Bran goes “You are a good man”, and lets Theon literally run into Death. Not cool, Bran!

The dragon reunion

Ever since Viserion went over to the dark side and got himself a pair of blue eyes, I had been waiting to see what would happen when he came face to face with his brothers and mother. It finally happened in the third episode. And it was not pretty. The dragons biting and snapping at each other broke my heart. And the scene was a blur of flames, smoke, and fog so that it was borderline obscure. And it ended before anyone could comprehend what was happening. Could have been handled better.

Jorah’s death was too drawn out

did-jorah-die-battle-winterfell-2018356

Jorah was at the head of the Dothraki horde that ran into the Undead Army first. The Dothraki had their flaming arakhs, Jorah had his Valyrian steel sword. As the flames got extinguished, and only a few retreated, one can’t help but wonder how Jorah survived! A few scenes later, Jorah saved Daenerys from a wight attack and in a classic dramatic style took one blow too many before finally collapsing. “I am hurt”, he stated the obvious before dying.

Edd, what a pointless end!

the-best-and-worst-moments-from-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-3-2-2590685

The third episode saw another death. Edd had proved to be a loyal friend and a capable fighter. He deserved better than a wight stabbing him from the back. And that too just after he saved Sam’s life. Poor Edd, what a pointless end for you! He deserved a better death. Something like killing hundreds of wights by using some cool fire trick, and then dying, probably with a curse on his lips instead of “Oh Sam”. But now his watch is ended.

After a lacklustre first episode and a neither-here-nor-there second episode, the third episode packed a punch! Still reeling from the aftermath, I suddenly realised that we have only three more episodes to go, and still a lot of ground to cover. With this powerful episode, my hopes from the next episode have soared high and high!
