Alfie Allen talks about Theon jumping from the ship and his future

Game of Thrones Season 7 premiered after a long wait, and with two episodes in, we can say that it has certainly started off well. In the second episode, called Stormborn, showed poor old Theon Greyjoy get a scare as Euron Greyjoy attacked the Iron fleet, and held Yara Greyjoy at the blade, and challenged Theon to save her. Theon, however, started quivering, and ultimately jumped into the water, reminding us of his Reek days. Now, as some of you might know, HBO has a project called Making Game of Thrones, which gives us behind the scenes insights into the show, and the latest one is an interview with none other than Alfie Allen. He talked about that jump that Theon took, the future of the character, and more. Read on!

First off, he talked about the scene in the last episode, where Theon Greyjoy was faced with a tough situation, and how it connected to his past :

” Going back to the imagery of what he saw back then, and allowing that to flood back in. Also, as an actor, having to delve back into something that was so long ago in his arc is pretty crazy. But it’s always been there throughout; it’s just gauging what brings him back, how much is created in his own head, and how much is an effective threat. I would say he’s in a better place, but he’s still definitely harkening back to those memories.”

He spoke about how it was to film the scene :

“It was a great thing to shoot. We had an amazing set up. It was all this crazy s**t out in a parking lot, and then they use a blue screen for the ocean stuff. I’m always excited to shoot the stuff between me and Gemma [Whelan, who plays Yara] because she’s fantastic to work with and we’ve built up a relationship over the years. We definitely feel like we are siblings. It was a heartbreaking moment.”

He was asked about what he thought went through Theon’s mind at that moment. Alfie replied :

“There’s conflicting emotions for him, because he’s sort of back in battle mode, which he hasn’t been in for a long, long time. The sight of blood is going to remind him of physical pain or mental torment. It brings him back to that place, and he’s torn as to what to do. The reptilian part of his brain just takes over.”

In the end, he talked about what to expect from Theon’s storyline this season :

“He’s dealing with decisions that he made a long, long time ago. Now he’s having to face up to those decisions, and the people who it really did affect.”

So, what do you think will happen to Theon this season? Tell us in the comments down below!

See Tormund and Gendry enjoy a game on Nintendo Switch in Game of Thrones behind the scenes photo

Game of Thrones had the ultimate face-off in Season 8 when the Army of the Dead faced the living folks in Winterfell. The Battle of Winterfell saw a lot of people uniting to take down the Night King, and among them were Tormund Giantsbane, and Gendry (now Baratheon). A new behind the scenes photo from the sets shows the two enjoying a nice game on a Nintendo Switch. Read on!

The picture, posted on the Game of Thrones subreddit, shows Joe Dempsie, who played Gendry, and Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, still in their costume and the bloody makeup, just sitting down to play. Take a look:

[NO SPOILERS] Gendry and Tormund playing games in Winterfell after The Battle of Winterfell from gameofthrones

As we all know, the Battle of Winterfell sequences took a gruesome 55 nights to film, and have been described by the stars as some of the roughest times they have had filming for the show. So it’s no surprise that they would have at least some way to relax on the sets in between takes or appearances.

Nintendo consoles are also famous for being the best for the local multiplayer experience, so that’s probably why these two seem so engrossed in the game. If only we knew which game they were playing!

Take a closer look at "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "The Book of Brothers" from the Game of Thrones finale

The Game of Thrones finale was packed with a lot of things going down, but there were two very important props that we could have used a better look at – the books! “A Song of Ice and Fire” and “The Book of Brothers” made brief appearances in the finale. Now, thanks to HBO, we have a better look at both the books. Read on!

HBO’s Game of Thrones behind the scenes blog, Making Game of Thrones recently featured both the props, in a batch of photos that give you a good look at them. We saw “A Song of Ice and Fire” shown off to the small council by Samwell Tarly, who reveals that Archmaester Ebrose compiled it, with the title being his own suggestion. Game of Thrones gives us a closer look at some of the amazing costumes from the series finale

Avatar

The costumes on Game of Thrones have always been more than just clothes, weaving in symbols and meanings from the story being told on screen. It is but natural, then, that the Game of Thrones series finale will have costumes that speak volumes even on their own. The Game of Thrones blog recently delved deep into three such costumes, belonging to Sansa Stark, Brandon Stark, and Ser Brienne of Tarth.

Why these three, out of all the characters that we encounter in Season 8 episode 6 ‘The Iron Throne’? Probably because all three went up significantly in their respective power ladders – Sansa became Queen in the North, Bran became King of the Six Kingdoms, and Brienne became the first Lady Commander of the Kingsguard in Westerosi history. Their costumes reflect this shift in power, along with their personal histories.

Sansa Stark, Queen in the North – Coronation Gown

Sansa’s coronation dress is the epitome of power dressing, with all her loyalties and history displayed in full glory. It also follows Sansa’s habit of borrowing elements from other power women she has been close to. Game of Thrones costume designer Michelle Clapton breaks it down in an Instagram post.

The fabric used in this dress is the same as the ‘Dark Sansa’ dress – which Sansa wore during her stay in the Vale. It symbolized her shift from a naive young girl to a player in the game of Thrones. The dye used in the coronation dress, on the other hand, is the same as Margery’s wedding gown, symbolizing the friendship between the two of them.

The embroidery and detailings predictably include the Stark Direwolf, but also fish scales, which points back to her House Tully roots, from mother Catelyn’s side. Her crown also follows this pattern of Direwolf heads melting into fish scales. The red Weirwood leaves in the train symbolize her territorial power – the wintry North in all its glory.

Brandon Stark, King of the Six Kingdoms – Royal Doublet

Bran has finally let go of the heavy fur coat that accompanied him throughout the series and embraced velvet. This is the first time we see him in this fabric, which symbolizes his royal standing. But he is not just a king, he is also the Three-Eyed Raven – the most significant part of his identity now. That identity is clearly depicted in the dark grey colour and feather detailing of his doublet.

Ser Brienne of Tarth, Lady Commander of the Kingsguard – Golden Armour

Serving as a Kingsguard is the highest honour for any knight in the realm, and Brienne makes it right to the top of even that motley crowd. Her skill at arms and rock-solid moral compass combined made her a force to reckon with. Her new golden armour reflects her glory and power – every inch of which she deserves.
