Attention!! This post contains spoilers about the the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere. If you haven’t yet watched it, please turn back. Game of Thrones has finally returned with it’s 7th season and it wasted no time in surprizing the viewers with slaughter fest and we are not complaining a bit about it, as it involved Arya Stark killing the entire Frey family with poisoned wine!
It was surprising to see that the episode started directly with with the feast at the Twins, rather than the usual intro. The previous time this happened, we saw the Hound making a comeback. So we can understand how big this scene is. The episode started with Walder Frey bringing together all the Frey family members for a feast and even served them wine from the Arbor, which is the finest wine in Westeros. However, we already know that Arya Stark has already killed Walder Frey in season 6 and the moment Walder appeared on screen, it was apparent that things weren’t going to end well for the Freys and that’s what happened.
Arya Stark made sure all the Freys who were involved in the Red Wedding drank as much poisoned wine as they could and also made sure that the innocent people, like Walder’s new wife didn’t take even a sip of it. Once the wine was consumed by the Freys, Walder started talking about the Red Wedding and how they murdered the Starks and all the guests whom they had invited to their home and that’s when the Freys start choking and Arya Stark starts revealing herself by telling them they made a big mistake by not killing all the Starks and that’s when Arya says, “Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe.” I just loved this line when I heard it for the first time and we might see it being used everywhere on the internet.
Once all the Freys were dead, Arya removed the mask from her face and revealed her true identity and instructed Walder’s wife to tell people what happened. “When people ask you what happened here, tell them, ‘The North remembers.’ Tell them, ‘Winter came for House Frey.’”
Arya then walks away with a smile on her face it seems to be very similar to the scene where Sansa Stark walked away with a smile on her face after she killed Ramsay. This was a really satisfying opening with some brilliant acting done by Maisie Williams.
