Latest tweet by Carice Van Houten suggests we might see Old Melisandre once again in Game of Thrones season 7
Game of Thrones Season 6 was definitely the best one we’ve seen yet, bringing us several reveals, some of which were really unexpected. One such shocker was the Old Melisandre reveal, where the Red Woman got undressed, and removed that necklace around her neck we have seen before, but not really paid attention to, revealing her true self, which is really old and wrinkly. Now, Carice Van Houten has posted an image of her in the Old Melisandre prosthetic make-up, and there is a good chance that it might be from a Season 7 session! Read on!
Carice Van Houten posted the picture to her Twitter account, showing her in the complicated make-up, with a caption that read, “Best special make-up team I ever worked with.” Check the image out, below :

We know Carice to be really pretty, so you can see how hard the team would have had to work to make her look this old and far from her usual attractive self. Now, this could easily be a throwback picture from the Season 6 filming make-up sessions, but there isn’t anything suggesting that. The caption would make it seem like it’s a new image, rather than old, so we expect Old Melisandre to show up in the next season. Another reason is that the reveal needs some sort of a follow up, and we expect the showrunners will have addressed that in Season 7, rather than keeping it for Season 8, unless it has an angle to it that we’re not seeing, like Melisandre being a major part of the end-game.
What do you think? Will we be seeing Carice Van Houten as Old Melisandre in the next season? Or do you think this is an older image and we’re reading too much into it? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
