Game of Thrones is a show with a strong storyline, thanks to author of A song of Ice and Fire, the series of books on which the show is based, George R. R. Martin, and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. The show has never held back with its deaths, even those of the important characters. Naturally, all of us have wondered, at one point or the other, as to which death must have cost the most to film. Now we finally have an answer!
Now, going in, you would think that Viserys Targaryen‘s death was the costliest. Khal Drogo literally poured a bucket of molten gold over the guy’s head, and that seems like it would have cost a lot. However, it seems that our assumptions are wrong. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed that it was Meryn Trant‘s death that was the costliest while speaking on the Game of Thrones panel moderated by Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW).
If you don’t remember, Meryn Trant, played by Ian Beattie, suffered his death at the hands of Arya Stark, who cut his throat and stabbed him in the eyes. You can check out a video clip of the death, below:
Explaining why the death cost so much, Benioff kept it simple:
“She couldn’t really poke out his eyes.”
Well, that explains it!
Game of Thrones is set to return with Season 7 on July 16, and considering where the story left off, and the possibility that characters like Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Arya Stark will be operating in closer proximity than ever before, we certainly expect that some death or the other, from the remaining two seasons, is bound to steal this spot away.
