George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the series of books on which Game of Thrones is based, is currently writing the sixth book in the series, while the TV series has now surpassed the books in terms of the storyline. From previous reports, we understand that the next book, The Winds of Winter, might release this year, or maybe not, but we have a news that will please you : We will be getting a new short story set in the same universe, from George R. R. Martin, this year.
The information comes from a new Amazon listing, for a new anthology collection by author Gardner Raymond Dozois. He has worked in unison with GRRM before, not once or twice, but 8 times, co-editing anthologies.
The production description on the listing reads as follows :
“Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of A Game of Thrones!”
Now, we are in two minds about this news. Firstly, it is so exciting to know that we’re gonna be getting more material set in the Game of Thrones universe. However, it makes us feel a bit uneasy that The Winds of Winter isn’t here yet. Not just that, we don’t even have a fully reassuring confirmation on when it will arrive. George R. R. Martin has been giving updates (sort of), but they’re always along a ‘maybe’ theme, so it looks like we might need to wait for quite a while.
Talking about waiting, Game of Thrones Season 7 will return in summer, and that’s still a long while from here. If The Winds of Winter doesn’t release, even by the time Season 7 finishes, you can pick up the new anthology by Dozois, which will release on October 10.
