The build up to Jon Snow’s resurrection in Season 6 was unlike anything Game of Thrones had seen before. The series went from being the most successful TV show in the world, to a social phenomenon. Everyone, everywhere, was suddenly obsessed with one question, and only one. Is Jon Snow alive? Though other elements of Season 6 were left to the sidelines, hijacked as they were by the frenzy of dead/alive fan theories, Jon Snow’s resurrection firmly established the fact that characters cancome back from the dead. S7 is getting ever closer. (Well, it’s still a way off, but at least we’re now in the same year as release!) As is the end-game we’re hearing so much about. With this all in mind, here are a list of seven somewhat minor characters who we’d love to bring back from the dead for Season 7.
‘The Night is dark and full of terrors’… Give us the Mother’s mercy… Here’s a baby boy… Water the Weirwood…God’s satisfied? Okay. Let’s go.
Yoren – Night’s Watch
Considering the fact that they’ve lost so many brothers, I thought it would only be fair to bring back a fallen Night’s Watch brother. Yoren appeared in Season 1 and 2, playing a pivotal role in Arya’s escape from Kings Landing. He was also one of the most formidable members of the Watch. After being shot with a crossbow at an Old Mill in the Riverlands, Yoren manages to draw his sword and kill several men, before being totally overwhelmed. Ser Amory Lorch delivers the killer blow, driving his sword down through the back of Yoren’s neck. Yoren was also an honourable man and the first to warn Ned Stark of Catelyn’s capture of Tyrion Lannister. If he were to come back for S7, I’m sure he would be able to aid the severely depleted Night’s Watch in their preparation for war.
Okay, so Jojen Reed and his sister Meera are perhaps not minor characters. Yet they are certainly not main characters either. Anyway, internal debate over, Jojen Reed was a fantastic character whose presence was commanding whenever on screen. The eldest son of Lord Howland Reed of Greywater Watch, Jojen has the ability to see the future. This makes him crucial, as he knows the significance Brandon Stark will play in the wars to come. With this knowledge, he convinces Bran to travel north to meet the Three-Eyed Raven, where Jojen unfortunately meets his end. Now that the Three-Eyed Raven is dead, however, and Bran is left to finish the rest of his training alone, Jojen would certainly prove useful. Yet he knew his destiny and accepted it. Saying that, it’d be great to bring him back!
Maester Luwin is one of those minor characters that you’d have to be a heartless, murderous bastard not to miss. (Lot of them in Westeros.) His death in season two at the hands of the Iron Born invaders of the North, under the command of the traitor Theon Greyjoy, seems like another lifetime ago. So much has changed since. Winterfell was burned and then fell into the hands of the Boltons. Now it has finally been reclaimed by House Stark, the audience are able to come to terms with how far things have come since the day when Robert Baratheon visited with his court. Maester Luwin was loved by all and his wisdom will surely be missed. Especially by Jon and Sansa, whose role it is to now control the North and prepare for Winter and war.
Karsi – Wildling
Karsi is a character who we’ve mentioned beforeon Wiki of Thrones, and for good reason. When she was introduced in Season Five’s ‘Hardhome’, many thought that Karsi would become a major Wildling leader that’d we see much more of. However, she was unfortunately cut down by undead zombie children, her kryptonite. However, here’s where things get a little tricky, because, technically, Karsi has already been brought back. At the end of ‘Hardhome’, Karsi and all the dead Wildlings are risen from the dead by the Night King. In this sense, she is back for Season 7. However, it would be great to have her as her old self, rather than all pale and blue eyed.
Ser Arthur Dayne
Okay so this minor character’s resurrection may be based on only one scene, but what a scene it was! Ser Arthur Dayne is referenced throughout Game of Thrones and in Season 6 we finally got a glimpse of how his reputation as a swordsman was earned. When a young Ned Stark arrives at the Tower of Joy with his bannermen, he is met by Dayne and Gerold Hightower. They are guarding Lyanna Stark. With two swords, one in each hand, Dayne cuts down most of the Northmen, leaving just him and Lord Stark. A wounded Howland Reed, however, then crawls up and stabs Dayne in the back, leaving Ned to finish the job. Though he died long ago, it would be awesome to see Dayne fight again, perhaps against a White Walker or two.
Again, this might seem like quite a random request, considering the vast amount of minor characters that have died in Game of Thrones. Areo Hotah was part of a storyline that was not much liked by fans. Dorne felt laboured and too distant from the far more pressing matters of Westeros. However, Areo Hotah was perhaps a character that could have altered that, though he never got the chance. Like Arthur Dayne before, Hotah was renowned for his prowess in battle. Yet, unlike Dayne, we never actually got to see Hotah do battle! The only reason I would bring Areo Hotah back, would be to actually see him fight and gauge how good he actually was. I felt disappointed by his somewhat easy demise.
The Dead Direwolves
Each Direwolf’s death has been as tragic as their Stark companions. Where there were six of them, only two now survive (if Nymeria is still alive). Rob’s Grey Wind was killed at the Red Wedding, Lady was killed by Ned Stark on the orders of King Robert, Shaggydog was killed by the Umbers and who could forget Summer’s self sacrifice for Bran in the escape from the Great Weirwood. If we could, it’d be great to bring them all back and rebuild the pack. Winter has arrived and the dead with it. It’d be awesome to see the Direwolves charge in the final battle against the White Walkers. Yet, though that is unlikely, Nymeria’s return is something that appears more on the cards. In the books, she is rumoured to be the leader of a giant wolf pack. So we may get that snarling charge after all!
There you have it, my seven minor characters that I’d love to bring back for Season 7. Who would you bring back if you could?
