Game of Thrones is about to enter its seventh season in 2017. On the other end George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series, which the TV series is based upon, is yet to release the sixth book : The Winds of Winter. The TV series has surpassed the books, now, and we are in untested waters, having to rely on spoilers alone, to figure out what the seventh season holds. The release of Winds of Winter is still a bit far away, but now GRRM has provided an update (sort of) about the release of the book.
George posted on his Not a Blog, about his visit to Mexico for the Guadalajara International Book Fair. He gave information regarding the progress of his upcoming book and also let the readers know that after this event, he will hardly be making such appearances.
“This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months…
See you south of the border.”
Those of us who thought that GRRM would have been done with Winds of Winter by now will be taken aback. Let’s be positive and say that at least now, we have a confirmation that the book will arrive sometime in 2017. George also let people know what he plans to do over there other than just attending the event and it involves getting drunk.
“I expect I will be doing some tequila tasting as well. I am informed that Guadalajara is the tequila capital of Mexico.”
So it looks like George is going to enjoy some Tequila before he goes underground and focuses on finishing the book at the earliest. Several sources have predicted the release of the book to occur in early 2017, and it seems like that prediction might hold ture. However, George, in his post, said “My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed.”, which might also mean that he is going to spend most of the year working on the book.
Only time will tell. In the meantime, if you find yourself in Mexico this Saturday, you might as well get your book signed from George, at the Guadalajara International Book Fair.
