It is said that we are now living in the golden era of Television. While us Game of Thrones fans wait for the next season to come, we have plenty of other shows which drop by, anew, or renewed, some of which are really good. (No, Sherlock is not one of them.) One such show this year was Stranger Things, and despite being only one season in, this Netflix hit has a cult fan following already!

Now, Game of Thrones and Strangers things might seem miles apart to you, but there are a quite a few striking similarities between the two shows. Ellie Kendrick, Game of Thrones actress who portrays Meera Reed in the show, in a recent interview with MTV, pointed this out. Speaking about how Bran Stark from Game of Thrones was similar to Eleven from Stranger Things, Ellie said :

“He’s a little tiny boy who gets plunged into this political chaos, and he’s got this stranger in the form of Meera looking after him, dragging him around. I love the story line he has because he’s this kid who’s been forgotten, but he has these incredible powers to unleash. It makes me think of Stranger Things a bit. He looks small and weak, and yet he’s got this immense strength and capability of mind. That’s going to be one of the most exciting things in the coming episodes because he can reveal all of the past and the future.”

Well, we certainly agree! Ellie summed it right up.

Firstly, both Bran and Eleven are young, and seem weak, but actually have a lot of power, and yet continue to be the ‘good guy’ character of their respective shows. Secondly, Eleven and her connection to The Upside Down through a sensory deprivation pool, is quite similar to Bran’s warging. Not just that, both of them end up accidentally letting the dark forces, Demogorgon in Stranger Things, and the Night’s King in Game of Thrones, into the safe spaces of their respective universes.

Definitely something to ponder over. We expect to find more parallels when the next seasons of both the shows, come out.
