SPOILER ALERT! The following post contains major Season 7 spoilers! Consider yourself warned! Game of Thrones is currently filming its seventh season in Spain, where the Lannisters prepare to raid the Highgarden Castle, while the Dothraki army is hell bent on ambushing the Lannisters. In recent news reports, we have seen Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and Jerome Flynn (Bronn) spotted on the set, the Lannister Army carrying the loot from Highgarden, and the Dothraki army preparing their ambush. We have had enough spoilers to have the great battle sequence all figured out by now, but just today, we have been graced with a new piece of information, which might not affect the great battle plot but still is a vital development. Jaime Lannister has been spotted with a new sword!

Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall posted several pictures tweeted by fans. One image in particular, that too from the earlier days of shooting at Trujillo Castle, caught all the attention:

Yes! Jaime Lannister’s new sword is none other than Widow’s Wail, the Valerian steel sword previously used by his nephew/son, King Joffrey. For those of you who don’t know already, here’s why this little detail has us all excited :

Long after the execution of Ned Stark, Tywin Lannister ordered the greatsword of House Stark, Ice to be molten and made into two longswords. Widow’s Wail was one of them, and the other was none other than the Oathkeeper! The Oathkeeper is currently in possession of Brienne of Tarth, thanks to Jaime himself, and it is somewhat fitting that he now has Widow’s Wail. What’s even more interesting is that it has been said that the two blades will reunite, which brings in another façade of symbolism to the Jaime-Brienne relationship.

Not to forget that Ice has been with the Starks for hundreds of years, and it is fitting that the wielder of Oathkeeper, Brienne, has sworn to protect Sansa Stark. With Jaime Lannister starting to look like one of the good guys of late, maybe, just maybe, we will see Widow’s Wail on the side of the Starks, too. Maybe Jaime can finally make up to Bran.

What do you guys think this sword switch means? Tell us in the comments, below!
