This post contains some SPOILERS regarding Game of Thrones season 7. If you want to avoid spoilers, we suggest that you turn back right now! Recently we had reported that James Faulkner who plays the role of Samwell’s dad, Randyll Tarlly had arrived for filming in Cáceres. We also know that he will be involved in a scene with the Lannister forces where the Lannisters are ambushed by Daenerys and her army in the Reach. All this happens just after the Lannister army sacks Highgarden and is returning home. All this seems very exciting and it’s going to be an action-packed season.
During this scene, Randyll Tarly will be accompanied by his son Dickon Tarly who was played by Harry Potter actor Freddie Stroma. However, Los Siete Reinos reports that the role will now be played by another English actor, Tom Hopper, who has acted in Black Sails, Merlin and Doctor Who. There are reports that Tom has been seen working out with his co-stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) and Jerome Flynn (Bronn) and we also have a picture with his on-screen dad, Randyll.
This is not the first time Game of Thrones has recast actors. In the past we have seen Daario Naharis, Three-Eyed Raven, Tommen Baratheon, Mrycella Baratheon, Beric Dondarrion being recast. The Mountain has been played by 3 different actors till now and one of those actors is Ian Whyte, who has also played the role of Wun Wun, a White Walker and another giant in Game of Thrones so far.
It will be interesting to see what role Dickon Tarly plays in the events that unfold in Game of Thrones season 7 as he had a minuscule role in the 6th season.
