George R.R Martin has reflected on the 2016 US presidential election and he let people know what his opinion was about the current political fiasco in the United States of America. In a new post on his LiveJournal blog, GRRM revealed his insights on the presidential nominees.
The author is well acquainted with the political ebb and flow, courtesy to the politically twisted books he has written. After all he’s the man behind characters like Peter Baelish, Joffrey Baratheon, Ramsay Bolton, all of them known for their despotic demeanor.
GRRM had a very straightforward message about Donald Trump, for people when he posted, “In my lifetime, there has never been a presidential candidate more unfit to lead this nation.”
He went ahead to state that, “You don’t need to like Hillary [Clinton]. You don’t need to listen to what Hillary says about Trump, or what I say about Trump,” he added. “You just need to listen to Trump. If you can do that, and still consider voting for him… well…” which pretty much shows what his conclusion is.
In his post he talks about the striking differences between the campaigns ads of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the New Mexico area where he lives. Martin also opined that Trump’s ads are “fairly standard political attack ads — that is, full of name-calling and innuendo, but lacking substance, whereas Clinton’s ads are much more truthful. There’s no name-calling either. Clinton doesn’t need to label Trump as ‘crooked’ or ‘a liar’ or link him with ‘perverts.’ Clinton’s ads just show Trump being Trump.”
George R.R. Martin ends his post with a very Game of Thrones feel to it where he writes, “He has boasted that he could shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue and still not lose any votes. I am beginning to think he was right.”
